Thanks, yes its really great to drive, one of the best driving cars I've owned, but far from original with its 1950 cc engine, 5 speed box, MGB disc conversion, servo, alternator, LED lighting..etc. Nothing very modern but it all works very well together.

I must confess to having a small and rather selfish smirk when hearing about issues (and often the significant cost!) arising from owners with more modern technology.. its just not worth it when my 60 yr old MG does everything so well and without fuss. I just don't see or feel that much driving difference, at least not at normal speeds on our mostly awful roads! On a track may be different.

Loved my Morgans, but staggered to hear the issues that still haven't been sorted and there's just too much 'gear' on them now, I doubt i'll go back to them, still love to tinker and there's not much i can do with all that plumbing and electrickery going on.

Id like to think its a keeper, but then i always say that smile

I finally found our neighbour to ask him why he wanted a motor. It turns out that the car has been fitted with a single cam motor and he wants a twin cam for originality.
In Italy you can get reduced insurance for certified historic vehicles but to get the certification they must be original.
I will pass all the suggestions on to him.

That won't be easy or cheap. Engines are scarce and the last couple of rebuilt ones i saw available were in the States at around $20k per go.

Still worth a call with the specialists to see what the latest is on them. Unfortunately the twin cam engine was peculiar to the one model and not much was carried over from the single cam version. Might be easier to find a complete car if the twin cam lump is a must.

Just seen this twin cam coupe with an engine rebuild by Peter Wood. Seems well priced to me ?

I suppose the values have fallen like most classic/specialist cars recently.

I'm not convinced that the situation as seen by a certain Mr Mathewson in Yorkshire is reflected countrywide. Sales of both pre- and post-war classics seem to be buoyant at my local dealer. As for MGAs, he posted this on Facebook last week.

Ian ... could it be he's like the big players in the stock world .... he has real exposure and profile and who knows, maybe he thinks he can effect the market ... depressing the price doesn't suit the current owners but may drive new people into the bargain priced market ... keeps him turning cars over.

My Dad always used to say you could tell a sports car because it was exclusive and expensive when you were a buyer, but cheap .......... "because there's not much market for them" ..... when you were a seller 🙂
