Another case of The law of Unintended Consequences - this winter's task was to replace the broken seat base and original foam, now all done and seat back in situ. But ... now I'm almost two inches higher than before (seat base had collapsed) and can barely get my legs under the steering wheel.
I know that I can remove the seat base wooden supports, but these angle the seat, so I guess the odd washer may be required. However, there are protruding bolts underneath each side flat metal base plate, something to do with the seat adjustment mechanism. These are neatly recessed into the wooden slats, so what do I do if I remove these - surely not cut equivalent holes into the wooden floor?

If by that you mean that the seat runners will rest on the bolt heads, then there are two options, both including spacer washers. The first option is to fit spacer washers thick enough to lift the bolt heads off the floor. The second option is to grind away part of the bolt head, or see if you can replace with a semi-countersunk setscrew which will hardly protrude, but still need thinner spacer washers.

I want to alter the rake of my seat base...it feels too flat. If I use washers under the front mount are the runners robust enough not to bend?

I don't think that the runners will bend. Check what's under there now. You probably don't have the tapered wooden spacers, but if you do, then take them out and start from there. If you find that the runners need some mid support, either make, or get made some new wooden wedges - (just cut a suitable length on a diagonal), or a nylon block could be cut and fixed with double sided tape mid runner. Funnily enough, although high density poly wouldn't be hard enough, rubber sheet would be, and could be laminated into a wedge.

Be careful you might end up with a "neoprene wedgie"

I have an off center Mota Lita wheel.
This means the rim is higher at the bottom.
Thus it makes it easier for the legs.

Try getting into the car "head first". Certainly helps when the hood is up.

But now, having followed Dave's instructions to the letter, I know what those struts are for ...
Without them, the seat slider butts up against the rear cross member with the seat not-quite half-way back. So not much help for longer legs; I guess I'll just have to give up the diet and let the seat sag back into a lower level.

Could you not sculpt the foam a bit, to lower the driving position a tad?
