Interested to see what Cain comes up with regarding front shock top mounts. Always regarded the cantilever system a bit of a bodge even by MMC standards. Have also had both sides shear!

well Morgan only fitted shock's to stop the punters asking why their car unlike all the others didn't have any dampers fitted! so you can see that a quickly modified top mount was a simple solution to fitting them one weekend without to much thought to their operational directional forces. Someone can probably still be heard in the hallowed workshop from that day saying " just tweak an angle on that extended top mount to match the shock absorber attachment angle"!
This goes for the rear suspension modification as well, when they changed over to the rear hoop using linear dampers, again the directional function of the damper is fighting the direction of the axel travel and this is even more problematic than the front as can be seen by damaged mounting bushes and mounting points on the hoop. In reality all later classics should have left the factory with a modular five point rear suspension unit fitted and something like Peter at Mulfab designed using wishbone's and some form of coil over or MacPherson struts at the front. This would have formed the perfect intermediary car between the original classic and the new CX platformed cars.

I have to agree with Richard that it is truly a real bodge, but I think we just might be entering a really exciting time where MMC are now so commercialized that they are relinquishing their grip on spares and parts and other's will step up to take that place and in so doing will redesign a lot of these replacement parts and mod's to enhance our car's drivability! Long may they continue!

If Cain at Wolf does it then it will be good stuff. I know he has been working on this for several years.

The top eye of the shocker needs a rose joint, problem is they transmit more sound than a rubber mount back into the chassis
