An aerosol can of motorcycle chain oil sprayed onto the edges of the leaves will penetrate most effectively. Get the one that is suitable for o-ring chains so as not to damage any rubber bushes. I do mine just once a year.

As a matter of interest which brands do you use? I have got 4 or 5 part used spray oils in the garage and cannot find one that works.

I always use motorcycle chain lube. Castrol, Halfords own brand or any from a good motorcycle dealer. It penetrates when you apply and dries to a wax. Works really well. Bud 4/4 - Stanley

I use fork lift chain spray, it stays on the metal and doesn't wash away easily, it also penetrates the leaves. Fork trucks usually work in a harsh industrial environment so if its good enough for them etc.

What's the current thinking on lubricating leaf springs? Mine creak under torque. Definitely one of the best things you can do to improve the ride. This is what I have done, not a recommendation but just for interest... I first flushed my springs to drive out any iron oxide dust that had developed between the leafs with a pressurized can of cheap penetrating oil. You would be amazed at how much red debris came out. I then slackened the ubolt nuts and injected grease between the leafs before tightening as my creaking was mostly coming from the portion of spring directly below the axle. This was all done a while back but the ride is still superb and silent. I do like silent springs so I’ve also cut access holes in the covers over the front bushes. When they start to squeak it’s a quick job to douche them in lube. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2024/03/05/lube-holes.jpeg)

What's the current thinking on lubricating leaf springs? Mine creak under torque. Best to jack up the rear of the car to reduce weight on the springs before squirting with bike chain lube via a long tube. Leave it on jacks overnight to fully penetrate. Removing the tool tray and spare wheel gives improved access. Do this at least once a year.
