A constant feature of my Roadster has been what I can only describe as a tooting noise from the suspension. This happens most typically when turning corners or decelerating. It seems to have got a bit worse recently. Any idea what it is and what I should do about it?

Thanks.

Firstly; front or rear?

Secondly; Lubrication, is everything lubricated/greased as it should be?

I believe it's the front. Lubricated about 10 months ago and only done a few hundred miles since then.

Try some candlewax (less messy than grease or Vaseline) rubbed into the bonnet tapes, Mogs flex a surprising amount causing noises that are difficult to pinpoint

I use some rather mature lip salve, left over from when I convinced myself I could ski !

I will try that Jon (or lip salve). It had not occurred to me that it could be the bonnet tapes.

If you can get your car on a chassis supporting ramp with the front wheels off it may reveal witness marks to the issue. Would also give you an opportunity to inspect suspension for anything amiss.

ETA: unusual but could it be a shock absorber thinking Removing and examining may reveal the cause of noise. You could even take car for a run without them to prove the cause. You will be surprised how little different the car feels, initially at least.

On my 4/4 I get a similar noise. Cause is the front springs rubbing on the king pin assembly about 1/2 way up. By removing wheels & looking through the spring you can see a vertical witness mark. Any small amount of lube will stop it, until the lube gets washed off. The rear leaf springs can also make odd noises if dry & rusty.

When the bulkhead tape squeaks sometimes the noise appears to come from the headlamp are (!) so a good rubbing is advised, as said before look at the front suspension for witness marks. I use Waxoyl (warmed) to lube the rear springs, has great creeping qualities.

Not so much a toot but more like a squeak some years ago on mine. That turned out to be a loose nut that attaches the wing stay to the underside of the wing arch. As that is just above the front wheel, it could easily be mistaken for a suspension issue. It just needed nipping up by half a turn or so.
