Hopefully one that RichardV6 can help me with.

I need to connect to an ignition switched live on my 2010 plus 4. I have fitted a Skytag tracker, just over a year ago, and it has a fused permanent feed connected from the battery. This gives me most of the functions available but to fully access all the options such as being able to track the car live myself and create safe zones when away from home rather than just the one at our house, I need the ignition switched option added. It also gives a five minute check rather than a 20 min update. There isn't a wiring diagram that I can find for these era of plus 4's and I also thought you might know how best to go about it.

Secondly, My parking at home is difficult to say the least, the garage entrance is narrow, very, and to approach it I have to come at an extreme angle through the outside gates and then align with the garage entrance. I have to reverse in as If you drove in you wouldn't be able to manoeuvre it out of the garage again without getting into that trapped scenario! And I have a full HGV licence too! So, I bought a reversing camera which has the guide lines image and I'm hoping that will help as Mrs Sewin really cannot master controlled reversing instructions! so, after all that blarney what I need to know is the best way to wire in the screen element. The camera is simple enough as it is powered via a fused link to the reverse light switch of the car and sends a wireless signal to the screen receiver but I don't want the screen to be live all the time so possibly another switched live connection? I'd also thought that as I don't require the screen/receiver to have any other functions would it be best to take a fused link from the 12v dash power socket via a switch and only have it live when needed. I hope that all makes some sense, I know the car has some sort of can-bus system so I also don't want to upset that!

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Hi sewin. If you can drop the dash there is a bomb tail (group of connected wires) in main loom distributing the run position power out of ignition switch. If you can trace this main loom to the grometted hole where it passes forward through bulkhead into engine bay then work back 230mm on the dash side you should find this bomb tail taped back into loom. There should be nine white/orange wires which you could add to. Note at this point they are only fused by a common 30 amp ignition switch fuse though. Alternatively you could tap into the green wires feeding demister, heater fan or wiper switches which are fused individually via main fuse box.

I just use the USB socket on my radio to run my GPS speedo.

If you have no radio the conectors are very helpful.

Thanks all!

Richard, are the orange/white wires in the bomb tail all live (ignition on)? were they designed into the loom for whatever car it was originally designed for? If I have understood that correctly then I like the idea of a readily available live feed. Would it then be alright to fit an inline fuse. I'm sure both items have a negligible current draw, what would you suggest fuse wise, 5A or below?

John., Well I have to upgrade the radio as mine is still fitted with the original Blaupunkt unit AM/FM CD and I can't get anything on the radio although in fairness we only tend to use the CD and it has no USB socket. I'm thinking of a CD player with Bluetooth connectivity only so we can use the phone to control the unit. any ideas or thoughts on where to go there would really help!

BM, Thanks, I suppose tee-ing into the live feed of the radio could always be an option which would already be fuse protected. Keeping the wiring very simple!

Again, many thanks.

Yes as mentioned above all the white/orange wires comprising the bomb tail distribution point are fed by same colour wire from "run" position on ignition switch. An extra inline 5 amp fuse for a connection here would be fine.

Note tapping into the radio switched feed (light green/white wire) would be ok bearing in mind it's fed from the first "accessory" position on ignition switch which obviously remains live when "run" is selected. This feed runs through 10 amp fuse 9 for radio and horn.

Thanks Richard you're a star! So much easier when you are pointed in the right direction. Without a wiring diagram I probably would never have found that bomb tail or even recognised it as a selection of available switched lives!

Can't thank you enough.
