What causes the passenger electric window to hunt intermittently near the top even though there is no key in the ignition. Thanks in advance

Just a guess Simon but if there is mechanical play in the winder mechanism the window could drop after reaching top of travel releasing stop switch, so it winds up again then repeats. As a security feature wouldn't power to windows need to be maintained?

If it is being moved by the electric motor and just jumping up/down a small amount then it is likely to be thinking someone is opening the door and dropping to avoid damaging the rubber seal.

Could be the sensor on the way out or a cable issue, I am not certain if this is driven by door open/light-on sensor or something linked to the door handles (in/out?) Have a fiddle with those and see what triggers it? Could be a loose cable around those.

Good advice above.

For reference, the microswitch that controls the window entrance and egress are a weak point on the Aero. It isn’t uncommon for them to fail or become problematic in the way they operate. As Alistair mentioned, the drop is to protect against damaging the top window seal when opening the door and sealing it when closing the door. Iirc, I replaced mine three times in the space of eight years with one Aero based product and it wasn’t uncommon to have to close the drivers door and then reopen the passenger door, use the window up switch to raise the driver’s door window, to seal it. The problem was made worse when the passenger side wouldn’t close properly too.

Another point to note is that you can reset the window position and the procedure, as noted by MMC, is:

The reset is a very simple procedure, if you lower the window on the switch until it reaches the bottom and then raise the window right to the top, ensuring you keep the window switch held in the lift position for approx 5 seconds, the window will automatically reset

It you have let the main battery run flat, replaced it or used the battery isolation switch, it is often necessary to reset the window position.
