Ok, here's my take on a Wind blocker.

It struck me that the header rail wasn't very far from the head rests when our seats were in their normal position (for us), so started considering how I could fit a Perspex panel to it.

I had read Dave W & Rog threads on fitting to the headrests and Rog mentioned the use of Acetal to make some bespoke clamps, this gave me an idea for some simple hooks.

So, a prototype from stuff I had laying around, basically plywood, plastic angle and cardboard. This worked in that hooks stayed on the rail but the cardboard predictably bent in the middle.


Purchased some Perspex, 4mm thick and attached the plywood hooks. This was much better in that it reduced the back draught, especially over 60mph.



Due to thickness of the Perspex and only 2x mount points it did flex quite a bit, so on to the current iteration.

4x identical mount points cut and shaped from 12x100x200mm Acetal, .
4x adjustable Torque hinges so the hooks could be folded down. I was now thinking of how to store the thing when not in use, more on this later.
A bigger piece of Perspex 350x1010mm to try improve things at lower speeds.

The hooks have a small protuberance that slides under the header rail to stop them jumping out and the face is angled so the Perspex is vertical.


The Perspex has 90x35mm cut outs on the bottom corners to clear the hood struts. The top is shaped the same as the windscreen.


Fitting is easy, slot in the top hooks at a slight angle and when sufficiently in, the bottom of the hooks slide under the rail. Removal is the reverse.


This is better again but some wind does get to you. Ie
- The misses still gets a hair brush on the job before getting out the car but it's not as "luggy".
- I noticed my cap lanyard doesn't rattle.
- You can have a conversation and hear the SatNav.

It's still a bit flexible, all the mounts are at the bottom of what is now a large piece of perspex and the header rail itself is not fixed in place so moves going over the bumps.

Note.
All tests done with side screens on! I don't think the wind blocker will be much use with the sides off.

Storing when not in use.

Unlike those fitted to the headrests this has to be removed when the hood goes up!

I eventually found that the best place to store it is simply to lay it flat on the parcel shelf with the hooks folded over on the upper surface and to the rear. There is some space there where I can still fit a big umbrella, my hills alive luggage fits on top of the wind blocker but doesn't go back far enough to hit the hooks, a blanket/large cloth protects from scratches.



I did contemplate cutting it into 3 sections and fitting some clear acrylic piano hinges so it could be folded and stored in the side screen bag, but that doesn't work when the side screens need to be stored.

It has it's Pro's & Con's so if you want a Wind Blocker you have a bit of a choice.

Anyway there you are, I had fun just while making it, time will tell how much we use it.

Wow what a clever and ingenious solution. A wind blocker is a nice option to have for your Morgan. I love those bespoke hood clips too, they must have taken an age.
