I am at the paint stage of my five year restoration of my 1979 four seater. Could anyone please advise on what colour the interior of the spare wheel-well should be? Image searches online sugest it is a mat or satin black, or should it be body colour? I aquired the car totaly dismantled and shot blasted so there was no old paint to refer to.

My dad used to have a 1979 4/4 4 seater which he had from new. It was body coloured so in his case signal red.
What’s the history of the car as my dads one when to France / Switzerland

I came across a 1972 model 4/4 today and that was body colour. It was in Royal Ivory with just 56k miles, and was in badly need of a paint job, so unlikely it had been resprayed in the past.

The wheel well on my Royal Ivory 2009 Roadster is satin black. I didn't like the random emissions gubbins being visible, so made a ply plate which covers it all, and finished it with a rattle can of satin black. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2024/05/25/Spare-wheel-well-with-emissions-components.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2024/05/25/Spare-wheel-well-with-components-obscured.jpg)

Perhaps the factory changed to black sometime between 1980 and 2009? Or there was never a standard.

Yep as Arwyn says it's satin black. Lots of owners have preferences here and have undertaken colour changes, mainly to body colour but you really can't beat satin black as its more durable than matt and doesn't mark easily, cleans easily too! finally when the spare wheel is installed you lose all semblance of anything other than the spare wheel in a well.
