A solution in case they are old and not working properly.

Working on my M3W fuel system of 12 years old – VIN number has a B of 2011 - I struggled with the ‘quick connects’ of the fuel lines.

It is probably my stupidity but even pressing did not release the ‘quick connects’ anymore.
I wanted to use the same ‘quick connects’ again and found during the work I had to use them : Again and Again.
I had to cut the “release circles” ( the one you have to press ) and could finally get the ‘quick connects’ loose.

To press the ‘quick-connect’ releases was also often not that easy because of the tight places you have to work.
Working on and analysing the fuel system required that I had to pressure test very often together and/or separately the fuel-lines, the injectors, the working of the very old GM-fuel-pump [ from 1996 and not enough pressure anymore : < 3,5 Bar ] and the Mann-filter [ only 3,2 Bar instead of the 6 Bar from the specs ].
I even used the ‘quick connects’ male part “IN” and “MOT” on the filter to check the lines for leaks, the return valve of the fuel pump and the back pressure of the filter with air-pressure.

I looked for an easier system. Without buying and installing new ‘quick-connects’.
A simple tie-wrap – or cable-tie - fits exactly in the sleeves of the release-system.
It also does the same function : keeping the female ‘quick connect’ behind a little bar on the male part of the ‘quick connects’.
Taking away again after a test is simply, just cutting the big tie-wrap connection-part.
And when I needed a new connection I just take another tie-wrap and slide it in the existing sleeves.
I tested with over 6 Bar and no leaks with these tie-wraps.
The idea works only for these old types of quick connects. Several new types do not have the possibility for a tie-wrap because they are fully open at both sides, because they have two push buttons on the same connection-circle.
