Just drove 300 miles today in 3.9l +8 and getting an increasing ‘warbling’ noise from the clutch, goes away when I put slight pressure on the clutch pedal, comes in at @2k revs and seems to stop above 2.5k revs? Assume the clutch release bearing? Getting annoying at normal road speeds? Any thoughts on cause & solutions? Thanks

Engine out for a £20 part. If the clutch is ok, put up with it. My layshaft bearing has been worn for the last 90k miles/5 years; a £5 part that you can only hear at idle, which for me doesn't justify the cost/time of removal, plus my clutch isn't a problem so no need to change that, which of course you would do if you went to the trouble of engine out. The cause could be lack of use?

Just checked mine again, if your warble dissapears when depressing the clutch pedal, it's likely the layshaft bearing. Clutch release bearing noise comes in when the clutch is depressed

It's worth checking the pushrod between slave cylinder and release fork. Dryness at either end might amplify noise, so try a bit of spray grease at the contact points. A long shot but worth a try.

Thx, appreciate the diagnosis, I’m sure clutch is fine, so guess I’ll be putting up with it. Will check the rod to see if it can be dampened.
