We are talking about the upper bolts between the headrests. There is no way a 12mm wrench will work on mine. I can't even get a 16mm wrench on the bolts there and 18mm is too much. Oh and I have used a 12 sided wrench but now I look at a 6 sided one it's obvious. There'll be no rounding of corners with one of those. One is winging it's way to me right now so tomorrow I should have more luck . Thanks for the advice.

Hi I am afraid we have a miscommunication. I thought you were talking about the upper bolts in between the headrests. Where the belt slides down in the retractors. That wrench is 12mm. And try not to use an open end but always - when possible - a close end and the best is 6 sides instead of 12 sides. Make a picture so we know were you are working. Herrie - the seat belt upper bolts are 17mm. They are sometimes very difficult to remove and very laborious - on some they only just clear the body when on last threads prior to coming out.... Reason they have been in what seems a silly place is like a few other things on the m3w, the body is put on after the rolling chassis is completely built

HI Steve
I knew I have a different car than all others ;-). It is proved again. But before I wrote it I went of course out to measure it. At my one - as you know - the bolt needs a 12mm wrench. But that written It is totally not really important. More important is that he gets it loose. I only was confused that we were looking to other bolts.

Thank you very much indeed for the closed end 6 sided tip - it worked. One bolt is completely out and the other half out. I am so relieved but will need a couple of new bolts. Now the search is on for suitable belts.

Just an update. As anybody who has done this knows you have to move a lot of bolts. In my case almost every single one was quite difficult. Anyway I am now looking at the last two bolts ie the two that hold the seat belt inertia reel and guess what. Yes they are bloody difficult too.

Hi Jonathan Yes I was afraid for it. The bolt of the reel is extremely stupid designed. It is like it is. But when ordering a new one have a look at one where the lip is a little longer. So you can mount it much easier. They exist as I have found out my self too. And maybe the belt itself in the color you like at most. Do have a look again at the article mentioned earlier. Seat belt inertia lockedThink also about the idea to modify the tray for a next time. Not only for renewing but maintain the reel and the belt clean once in a while.

Thank you so much for your reply's, Herrie and Bitsobrits as they both certainly helped. I took on board some advice and replaced the rivets on the back panel with rivnuts so it will be a tad easier next time. It is all done, at last, and I can also now offer some advise. I decided to replace both belts although it was only the passenger that was not un-reeling ( think I made that word up!) . I got hold of a UK company called BHIuk and spoke to Graham White. He could not have been more helpful and said he would replace the mechanism ( not the belts) on both, with a German brand that would never give me the problem again. And said he would turn them around in a day if I sent them to him. Which he did and the bill was around £84 in total including post and pack which I thought was very reasonable. The only issue, and this is some thing he would not have realised, is that the hole in the new brackets were about 5mm off the hole in the car as they could not go down far enough being of a slightly different shape but I made some adjustment to solve this problem. His tel in 07792594354 if you have a similar problem and I have no affiliation with this company. Again thanks for your help it is much appreciated. I also used BHI for my seatbelt replacement. My experience was the same as yours but in my case the brackets were a perfect fit. I would wholeheartedly recommend this company for any seat belt replacements - especially 3 wheelers as they are the only ones I have bought.

Jonathan,
Sounds like you replaced both. Assuming you have them in, how have they been? My drivers side started giving problems after only 2000 miles and I live in Arizona and the car has never been driven in rain. I have the belt extended and clipped to stay out.
I go to the UK yearly to visit my wife's relatives so am thinking of taking both over and have Graham replace them. This seems a great solution.
Would you have his email address by any chance?
Many thanks.

Hi Tom
Yes I replaced both. Tell them it's for a Morgan 3 Wheeler and you will get seat belts that fit perfectly. I sent my old ones to him so he could see the sizes etc but bought complete new units including the belts themselves. The belts are top class and work faultlessly. Here are Graham's details

Jonathan,
Thanks very much. I will follow your advice. I also have a 2012 M3W which has been fairly trouble free other than the belt issue and a fuel pump which recently failed due to the internal tubing cracking. Have replaced pump and only left to put in new fuel line as one of the quick connectors failed. I also have a 1958 +4 which I have owned since 1972 and a 1986 Fiat Twin Cam +4 bought new from the factory and kept in UK until 2012 when I brought it over here.
Thank you again for your help. I will email Graham now.
