I had Green stuff brake pads until two years ago, they were ok, but in hindsight I have to say they were a bit doughy or mealy (if that's the right word) in pedal feel, albeit with good response.
For the last two years I have had completely normal TRW brake pads. I can't remember the type number at the moment. At first they were "ok" but they needed a bit of pedal force and were not sensitive. In short, they weren't much fun but they served their purpose.

Then two years ago, when they were still quite new, we rode Alpine passes through Austria and Italy. It was the first time that the new TRW pads could really be broken in. Because I find it more difficult to run in brake pads on the 4/4 than on other models. The car is very light and has narrow tires. Before the brake pads really have to do anything, the front wheels are already locked. But on the Alpine roads, I braked repeatedly over many kilometers downhill so that the brake pads and the brake discs could really warm up. And lo and behold...since then the TRW have been fantastic, they react very nuanced to the slightest pedal pressure and they are a lot of fun to ride. On the other hand, due to the lightness of the 4/4 described above and the narrow tires, I have never come into the area of fading. Another advantage of a small lightweight car with very good but very normal brake pads.

I'm not a fan of EBC brakes Heinz, more marketing hype than properly developed compounds in my opinion.

Ferodo, Mintex and TRW are the trusted names in the business with decades of experience behind them!

The mighty ZF own TRW, so no questions about quality there

OK, my new Mintex pads are nicely bedded in now, seven spirited runs up Prescott Hill this weekend saw to that

They work perfectly from cold, make no nasty noises and give fantastic bite with no fade experienced so far.

Here I am overshooting the optimal braking point and locking up on Pardon



Definitely a case of operator error on my part, but some visual proof for you all of the pads in action.

I've yet to fully appraise the dusting element, but in all other aspects early indications are these new Mintex pads are an excellent no compromise brake upgrade for under £90, they operate just like regular road pads durung day to day use but definitely give better braking performance for fast road driving and more aggressive club sport competition work.

Pretty convincing stuff there with those pads so my original fears were unfounded. Monte’s going good…and we certainly know when you’re coming!

I've only driven the course once, but that uphill left hander is a right headache.
