Where did it come from and what does it say? I have a keen interest as I am perturbed by the recent actions of MSCC in awarding a contract to just one insurer as a preferred supplier and most people are finding that quotes are far from competitive. I fear that in the longer term, it will only encourage other insurers to jack their prices up, and we all lose out because of commercial decisions adopted by MSCC. They no longer seem to represent the basic interests of members, but are more concerned with feathering the nest of the club as a wholly commercial venture!

Here's the document in full, sent via our local MSCC Centre: MSCC Insurance Policy Requirements 4.7.24A single MSCC membership gives access to the named person to all aspects of Club/Centre activities including All Member insurance cover. A joint MSCC membership gives access to all named people- these can be family members living at the same address or a driver/carer in certain circumstances- whose name only needs to be registered with the MSCC membership secretary. If they are not named they only have guest status and are able to attend one or two Club/Centre events before they are encouraged to join. Adding joint members costs no more for the primary member; the named person is then eligible for Club benefits (however only one issue of Miscellany is sent, and only one e mail address can be used to access the members’ area of the website). All Member insurance cover does not apply to cars or people in cars; personal insurance and public liability cover these aspects, but All Member insurance is a requirement for anyone attending MSCC and Centre activities.

In short, if you are registered with MSCC in a sole name your partner's name needs to be added if they are regular attendees at Morgan events.

Ok so nothing to do with car insurance. It’s the last line that seems to preclude anyone who is not a MSCC member from attending an event under the “MSCC” banner, whether it be a centre event or not. Maybe they are getting worried that they may lose membership following the car insurance fiasco, so are trying to discourage people from discontinuing membership whilst still attending events with friends from a centre. Exactly what circumstances the insurance covers is another question!

I understand that in your car public liability is covered by you insurance once out and at an mscc event you can be covered by mscc insurance but only if you are registered as a member.

Very woolly wording. Insurance matters tend to be precise, so "If they are not named they only have guest status and are able to attend one or two Club/Centre events before they are encouraged to join" is just waffly in my view. Still, not a real issue if attending MSCC or Centre events isn't a priority.

I asked Gill for more clarity. She told me this & I sent it out to AngleMog members:-
see attached below about the MSCC public liability insurance for events.
In plainer English if someone goes to a Club/Centre event who isn’t a member, who might be involved in organising a Club/centre event or is just joining in, they need to be covered by this All Member insurance we hold with MSUK and the requirement is that we have a name for any regular attendee. Any Centre member must be an MSCC member. They don’t have to pay for their own subscription but can be added to the database if they are either a family member linked to the MSCC member or in special cases a carer who attends with the member or drives their vehicle.

So if it is by virtue of MSUK, then it would seem reasonable to assume that it covers any MSCC or Centre event that involves any degree of motor sport, and that seems very sensible. However, many “Centre” events may only be meeting up at a destination for a coffee, a visit to a stately home or a lunch or dinner as a social trip. In these cases I cannot see where MSUK requirements would have any part to play?

John thanks for doing that. But as Deejay says above, exactly what circumstances the insurance covers is simply unclear. I'm not trying to be pedantic or trivial, but "All Member insurance cover does not apply to cars or people in cars; personal insurance and public liability cover these aspects, but All Member insurance is a requirement for anyone attending MSCC and Centre activities" is just as plain as mud. Especially, if it's not cars or people in cars, then does it e.g. relate to a non-Mog driver attending and running someone over in a car park, or spilling a plate full of curry in their lap, or scratching a car with a jacket zip or camera, or breaking a pub garden bench, or lobbing a beer mug through a car window -- what the heck is this insurance for ???
