Managed to do some work on the 1955 Plus 4, rebuilt the master cylinder and painted the fluid reservoir then made up the front brake lines in 3/16 Kunifer before I install the engine. Going to make up some braided flexi hoses and then cover the braid in black heat shrink tubing to make them look period.

As a distraction, got some photos from the tin basher doing the beetle back body on my 1933 Super Sports, he's doing a cracking job!

Happily Sam got discharged from hospital last week and she's doing really well. Strength is gradually returning and now only needs a stick to get about. The walking frame been consigned to the spare room thankfully. Appetite is returning- surprisingly with my cooking too!!

Pleased to learn that Sam is on the mend. Your cooking could well prove to be an incentive!

My sports exhaust's resonator had blown out all it's filling; probably some years ago. While I enjoyed the sound for a while, especially through tunnels, a planned long distance holiday has finally nudged me to doing something about it.

A replacement [Librands resonator](https://www.librands.co.uk/products-view-113.html) was a bit pricey, so I located a [local exhaust fitter](https://www.facebook.com/p/ARO-Exhausts-100054307608881/). They have just fitted a new resonator for a very reasonable price.

My car now produces a lovely purr. Loud, but not in the former raucous and intrusive manner.

I'm very happy at the result. As will my travel partner.

I made an interesting discovery yesterday when I was setting the adjustments on the carburetors after installing new needle valves and adjusting the floats. When I had the idle mixture screws all the way in to do the initial idle mixture setting, I noticed that the springs were coil bound. I pulled one of them out, removed the spring and screwed it back in, counting the number of turns until it was seated. It took ten full turns. I then put the spring back on and screwed it back until it stopped and it was only eight turns, so what I had thought was closed is actually two turns open. Turns out that whoever rebuilt the carburetors for the previous owner installed the shorter, "new style" idle mixture screws in these 40DCOE18 carburetors. I'm going to shorten the springs until the proper screws, springs, and seals arrive.

A quick overhaul of the Crossflow's cooling system, drain and flush, a trip to Burton power for a new waterpump, new heater hoses and fan belt.
While there I cleaned and treated the fan pulley and alternator bracket to a couple of coats of satin black paint, finished off by leaving them in the ninja air fryer on a low heat to cure the paint! smile
