Hello, maybe someone here can help me.

Have a 4+ out of 98 with rear drum brakes. My back left rim always gets hotter than the right rim.

I set the handbrake cable completely loose and the rim turns relatively well when it's so warm. the hot left turns like the colder right.

Could this be somehow due to the exhaust, which just passes here, or to the distributor at the back...

The rim gets nearly so hot that you can hardly touch it anymore.

Jack it up and check if the brake is binding, it is common for the rear wheel brake cylinder to sieze this will cause the wheel to get hot.

Thanks. I thought so too. I also jacked it up when cold and when it was warm. But the wheel turns the same on the left as it does on the right. That's the scary thing.
Or maybe I don't even notice it when I turn because it's only a little.

I would bet you need a new pair of these and regular brake fluid changes, I did mine on the Plus 8 and it's a totally different feel. Alternative supplier I used the ebay pair and they were quality fittings.

With my Plus 8 I have a dual Librands Sports exhaust but neither drum gets much warmer than ambient fyi.

another problem. 8 screws and the 4 big rusty ones don't do anything! I can't bring it up. well, then probably in your car repair shop.

The easy check is to jack it up and apply the handrake firmly and then release it, now check the rear wheel rotation by hand and if the cylinders are at fault you should be able to tell as it will be binding.

thank you. but I've already done that when hot and when cold and they both turn relatively the same and well. That's why I don't understand it and I was probably thinking about the exhaust,... but maybe it turns a little worse on the left and I don't notice it and that's why the heat.

another problem now. 8 screws on the brake drum. the 4 big rusty ones don't do anything! they will be open with a flathead screwdriver?!?!? :-(

Do Not remove the slotted screws!!
The drum is not retained by them
the reverse of the threads on the slotted screws is deliberately peened to make sure you cannot remove them. You will destroy the threads in the hub if you get them moving.

Remove the 4 hex 7/16 AF bolts then strike the drum hard on the wheel face with a copper or hide mallet, whilst pulling the drum lip back towards you. This will normally shock any corrosion loose and also jump the drum over any lip caused by the brake shoes. Repeat as necessary pulling on different parts of the circumference of the drum
