My newly aquired 2008 +4 seems to have long brake pedal travel before getting to the the start of braking point. It pulls up fine once you reach that point but I find it off putting. Any ideas?

Have you tried changing brake fluid which needs doing every two years anyway? As an interim just bleeding brakes starting with caliper nearest master cylinder may improve matters. Use DOT4 fluid.

Does it change if you pump the pedal. If yes they need bleeding.
If not you can change the length of the rod from the pedal at the clevis pin to change the travel

Although it won't cause excessively long pedal travel (but does add to the slop/play) it is worth checking the clevis pin as they can wear to almost nowt as some on here have found

Very true. Probably worth replacing while you are getting back ache in the footwell.

That picture was almost certainly of a clutch clevis pin since not only does it get much more use but it's of smaller diameter. Important to check both though. I re-engineered the whole pedal and linkage system a few thousand miles ago with proper threaded stainless clevis forks, new pins and a pedal assembly with replacement phosphor bronze thrust washers given one was missing ex factory! It also allows easier adjustment since only one locknut is required. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/k0qHaCW.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i.imgur.com/qt6NexE.jpg) This left a particularly smooth clutch action which remains so.
