My MY22 car I bought from a dealer in July: after it sat from Aug 2023 till I bought it with under 1k on the odometer. It goes into Krazy Horse on Wed for a check up vs warranty recalls and some small issues I have. I'd love your comments.
I have two odd noise issues :- 1. not always but when say in second at 2.5 k rpm I accelerate hard I get a noise like pinking or badly set tappets. I at first thought it was old fuel given the history but I have covered over 1500 miles since buying it. I suspect it is the routing of the expansion tank hoses over that black plastic shield. 2. I get an occaisional noise from the rear behind the driver like a brake pad just kissing the disc. But this happens even when stopped. It comes & goes & seems to be caused by driven the over say a kerb. So I am thinking the heat shield is hitting the exhaust. The exhaust itself and the inner plastic wheel arches are not loose.
Has anyone else had the same & what was the cause?

Hi John, not sure ref No 1 the engine noises.. The 4 and 6 cyl BMW engines do have an fuel injector "clicking" noise when warm.. this is normal to these engines.. if you google the engine there are various posts on sites about it.. but from your description it does sound more like pinking... It might be the hydraulic tappets making noise, but I would think you would hear that at tick over. Ref No 2 the rear end noises, there is not a lot of sound insulation between driver/passenger at the rear and the coilover suspension upper mountings are close. Our car has the odd slight clonk when going over large potholes etc, I have looked over the rear end suspension several times to locate small noises and did not find anything much of note. The handbrake cable comes close to the suspension so that could be some of it?. Our car had ongoing handbrake issues and pad/disk rubbing, in the end the rear calipers and their mounts were replaced under warranty, which fixed the problem. No issues since.
We have the SSL suspension upgrade, but I have noticed that the car has less noise when the fuel tank is full or its carrying luggage, guess the extra weight just preloads the suspension that little bit more.

Agrered it could still be pinking, I have certainly not hear it on onther CXs. Time will tell. The rear noise happens when stopped so probbly not the suspension but thanks for the feedback.

I don't have either of the two problems you described Do you have an automatic or manual transmission?

Hi John Interestingly my own car (a 2022 plus four auto) has just been to KH for a service etc. one of the things I mentioned was a pinking sound under acceleration. They told me it is “normal”.

Well I can drive the same road & accelerate just as hard and get the noise or not. I'll keep you posted.

Noise at rear: not air being sucked in or out of fuel tank?

I have a MY23 Plus Four. I get a " wheezing" type sound when coming off the throttle, reminds me of a wastegate type sound of the turbo pressure venting. Occasional clunk on driver side rear at low speed, dealer fix is graphite grease on the hub splines. Done today at first service and not heard yet, plenty of stop-start on the congested motorway to test it.

I am guessing you have a "sport" button. Does item 1 occur the same way when you are in sport button as this might adjust the mapping etc ?
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
