Hi all,

I am the new, lucky owner of a Morgan Plus 8. It was my father's for 18 years, until his death two years ago. At that stage, it was stolen and I had to sue the thief for its return! But that's a story for another time.

Having been unused for several years, it needed assistance from a mechanic getting it through the MOT, and I managed to drive it from Norfolk back down to London where I live. Since then, I've noticed it struggles with overheating (well past the 100-degree mark), and I've read the threads on possible causes. I also have a sticky clutch on it now.

Given how beautiful a car it is, and how little use I've had from it, I'm keen to give it a full once-over to get it back to its best.

Does anyone know of any good, trustworthy mechanics or garages in or around London that I might be able to speak to for assistance?

Many thanks in advance!

Welcome Leo, Melvyn Rutter or Allon White are the nearest I can think of but I live in Devon so not the best to advise tbh.
Others will be along soon to help.

I had good experiences with AW.Buth they are in Milton Keynes.
Less so with Richard Thorne based near Reading.

Techniques based in North East Herts are excellent. Very experienced and friendly and an authorised Morgan service centre.

Yes, welcome Leo. So glad to hear you've finally been reunited with your Father's +8. My first Mog was an early 3.5, of which I have many fond memories.
Along with those mentioned above, you also have London Morgan in SW7 & Brands Hatch Morgans to the South. I personally run up the A1M to Stotfold to visit Techniques, they usually seem to have a +8 or two around when I'm there for a service. No connection other than as a very satisfied customer of 8+ years.

Thanks all, both for the info and the welcome!

My dad had a Plus 8 in his 30s. It became part of his identity, so it has been truly evocative that his second one passes down to me (even if I did need to fight for it!).

Sounds like Techniques might be a good shout, especially as it's the 'right' side of London for me (I'm NE).

Now, I have to find a way to get it working sufficiently to get it there!

Just also adding my support for Techniques. I have used them for about a decade. Ask for James. He’ll help you out.
