Sorry but that looks like a poor solution to a problem that doesn't exist to me.

So...looking at the wiring diagram, I should connect the hot wire for the lights to the A1 terminal on the control box? (where the Brown /Blue wire connects to the control box?)

Many thanks for all the help here gents...

Yes GC although referring to wiring diagram the other ends of brown/blue wires at main light switch or ignition switch would obviously be equally good, whatever is easiest and shortest run. Remember to add an inline fuse as close as possible to feed point.

Arwyn's advice is spot on. Our 1990 Plus 4 spotlights were wired through a dash switch and if needing to extinguish them for on coming traffic you had to switch them off via the switch. Not ideal. So I fitted a relay to switch off the spots on dip beam.
However on one MOT test the tester informed me that they were not working and I soon realized that he had the car running with the main beam on dip. Problem solved.
Probably one of the better things on the safety side I have done.
Another thing we had go wrong was years ago when driving out one day a noise was heard from the front of the car. On stopping I found one of the spot lights had just dropped out of the alloy wing leaving a perfectly round hole .Luckily the bumper bar held the light from dropping onto the road. Vibration had slowly weakened the alloy. The cure was to make up some stainless brackets and remount them via the bumper brackets. On checking the remaining spotlight it too was near to dropping out. The cure for the holes was to fill in the holes and then use a couple of Normog round metal badges (a perfect fit) araldited to attach them to cover the repaired holes. I have been told steel bodied cars are not effected.

Thanks all!

So I've actually got an unconnected (unwired) toggle switch on my Dashboard to the right of the inspection sockets that I assume is a fog light switch - I plan to use that to switch the driving lights on...will use a relay and inline fuse.

Happily in Texas, a 1965 car needs no inspection whatsoever if you register it as an "Antique Car". They will even let you use a period license plate from the year of your car if it is in good condition and the number is not currently in use - which is fun.

Where are you planning to mount the relay? I'm adding two lighting relays and a relay for a fan, and trying to decide where the best location is to mount them. What have others done?

On the bulkhead would be a favourite as long as its out of mud and rain commensurate with shortest cable run.
