Yup, 5 mins to hot seems about the same as our Plus Six now...a nice gentle climb of the gauge to operating temp..

Im new to the plusfour but not to Morgan.. I am looking at something around 2023 and wondered if there was a date after which the new radiator and hardware would have been fitted? The dealer(s) say that all the latest hardware has been fitted but there must have been a cutoff before which the thing would have needed to be upgraded. Any help gratefully received.. Also as an aside is the air conditioning an option you would bother with. For sure when the roof is off it's probably not going to do much but with the roof up and the windows in? Many thanks in advance Dave

Hopefully you have read right through the recent “Odd noises” thread by JohnV6.
That says to me that you cannot guarantee anything! Even if the rad has been changed, it could be the old stock ones that he has referred to. A real minefield!

I too bought into the urban myth that Morgan's 'never loose money'.

What a load of old cobblers. It may be true of certain models (Aeromax et. al.) and older models but certainly isn't for CX cars.

My insurance company's valuation for my two year old PlusFour suggests a 32% depreciation in two years, broadly in line with most cars. I expect that at three years old it will have suffered 50% depreciation.

So, I have decided to keep my P4 (no way am I throwing more money away by trading up to a P6, even second hand) and will go to Krazy Horse once out of warranty and go for their Stage 3 tune. A P6 slaying P4, now there's a thought!

The price of the dealer used ones suggest a lower depreciation but they aint moving - so your probably right!

Yes deals are out there for sure. The economy isn't helping either. I lost a bit on my Brooklands but got a very low cost CX. You can't ake it with you & HM Govt would love to have it so I am skiing.

Hi Mog42, from memory the last factory Plus Six fix to the radiators that I am aware of was the ECU reflash for a slower controlled warm up, this would have taken place around the summer of last year (23), I believe but can not confirm that there was also a revised radiator mounting undertaken just before that. Morgan does not announce its many revisions to an owner, you find out when the car fails or via TM from another owner. The info is given to dealers and its own factory repairs. The dealer might tell you if asked.
Our car had both radiator and ECU reflash with its last radiator "fix" in September 23, this was undertaken because of a leak from a previously earlier revision of radiator. As previously posted the QC on cars is a bit of a lottery, but it does seem to improve slowly from mid 22 then some more from 23 into this year. The CEO has recently made much of this in the Morgan club magazine. I would say the only way to find out what has been done to a car is via the Morgan factory records ( assuming they are correct ). If any updates/rework had been undertaken on an in warranty car by a dealer it would have needed the OK from the factory to do it, so it should be recorded ( you would hope )?.
If the dealer wants to sell you the car, ask for a listing by year and month of the work ( warranty ) and otherwise undertaken and if its the latest revision. They may not like this, but if they want to sell the car they should provide it. If they will not.. then either they do not want to sell the car enough or maybe the car isnt fitted with the latest revision. So look at another car/dealer.. There are enough cars presently on the market to choose from. From my own experience of a couple of main dealers they have a tendancy to first sell the car, then fix it afterwards if it develops an issue. Any updates seem to only be undertaken due to failure rather than the need to update to a better more reliable design. There does seem to be an exception to this being the ECU reflash for warm up.
Just to say also, I only have experience on our Plus Six, the Plus Four uses a smaller capacity 4 cylinder engine, so I assume their radiator and their related revisions are not the same.

Ref aircon.. if its 30 deg then the aircon certainly is a nice thing, we have used it a lot over the last 3 days with the top down. Same if I wanted to tour the car in Europe mid summer. However, its only aircon, it does not make the car any better, just gives the driver and passenger a more comfortable cabin and it only comes out through the 2 main vents, so you need to direct the vent straight at you and have fan at max.. It came as standard on the Plus Six so we use it, guess its an option on a Plus Four. Would I buy it.. maybe as we tour a fair bit, but its a borderline call on this.. Another point is aircon likes to be used, otherwise seal connections can slowly lose pressure and the system will need a re-gas.. It took the dealer 5 goes to sort ours, but to be fair they did sort it in the end with seal changes. Lastly, the car uses a bit more fuel running aircon, I only say this as the Plus Six useable fuel amount isnt that great if touring.

Really appreciate the time taken in your post and a few interesting points. As you say there is a fair bit about - which doesn't seem to e moving very quickly - perhaps another story! I felt the zircon would only really be useful with the windows in and the roof up - but it seems it's better than that! Thanks once again will report back Dave

Manufacturers waaaaay bigger than MMC are finding things 'tricky' at the moment.
A quick look at the Porsche website shows the huge numbers of used cars available right across the range.
The end of finance deals or folk no longer being able to afford the repayments and handing cars back are reasons for the cars coming back in. Expensive finance and the fact that there are no new buyers in the market is probably why the stock is sticking.....

The Italians in Malvern possibly picked a 'bad time' to buy a historic old English brand and try and turn it into a modern sports car manufacturer. Global circumstances aside, I've always said, many times on here in fact, it was the wrong way to do it and probably would (will) end, one way or another, in failure.

An extra £5k off along with any colour/leather shows how hard it is to sell very niche and expensive cars in a market with a hell of lot of choice. If you've got £80 to £110k to spend and don't but a 911 you're........, I'm not sure what the correct word is.........😁🙃

CX's and 3 wheelers are depreciating quite dramatically, and there is much further for them to fall, there certainly are some bargains to be had if the used world if someone is looking to get in to a more modern Morgan.

'Doing a caterham', a trad by any other name, proper retro could be the savior of MMC, although trads aren't immune to depreciation at the moment, there's lots of stock and few buyers.

I, along with many on here thought that MMC were foolish just to dump the trad, but I guess the Italians wanted a fresh start and to make their mark.
Well they have made their mark......!

Unfortunate timing, total misreading of the market, ambitions above the capacity of the brand, yes to all, to some extent, but how do they turn it around before the inevitable sell off or management buy out.

They can't be profitable and survive just making one off's for the mega wealthy, there must be a backbone of steady turnover selling affordable cars to enthusiasts......

Which is where MMC were pre Italian takeover and is what kept them in business for so long........................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😤🤬
Very interesting post....

Running air-con with roof down may feel nice to some degree (note, fan on full, nozzles directed towards you, etc) but it is working really hard. The compressor never gets to cycle on and off, the air filters are filtering much more air than normal and so will clog up quicker and of course, as mentioned, fuel consumption will dive.
On a hot day at home, would you open the freezer door and spend a couple of hours sitting in front of it to cool down?
In extremely hot weather, I find it more effective to pop the hood up with windows removed. Less chance of sunburn too.
