PaulyG: Unless the carb has spindle wear casing an air leak there would be little to gain in replacing it, save your cash, or put it towards a pair of 40's.
For your information I include my 123 Ign timing curve.
The engine is nothing special just a carefully put together assortment of mostly second-hand bits and bobs accumulated over the years. It pulls smoothly all the way to my cowardly rev limit of 7k with a sound track to die for. I dont use the services of a rolling road instead I use a my own wide band lamda sensor with some basic data logging software. I dont know the output probably somewhere around 120bhp to 130bhp which in a 1979 four seater is plenty enough to put a smile on my old face.
0 to 500 rpm - 8° (helps with cranking and avoids kick-back) 1000 rpm - 16° 2000 rpm - 22° 3000 rpm - 28° 4000 rpm - 34° 5000 rpm - 36° 6000> rpm - 38°
Engine spec; +90 thou (1690cc) BCF 3 cam Verier timing sprocket Big valve head 10.2 to 1 compression ratio (1300 pistons) Twin 40 IDF down draught carbs Dry sump

I've been told to not go over 34°. And with what I've got I won't go over 6600 RPM. I have the limiter set at 6300 for a margin of safety.
I'll compare your curve with mine. I think for the most part they are pretty similar.
I can feel a slight movement in the shaft. I've tried spraying it with carburator cleaner while it's running and haven't heard any changes is idle, so I guess it's ok.
I'm not going to 40's. It should run fine with what it's got

My mains are the same. The numbers I got off the emulsion tubes are 160 & 165. Nothing else seemed to have a number. This should be the stock set up from new.

Had my 2009 Roadster MoT'd by a good local independent garage. Friendly "while you wait" service. Pass with no advisories. Saved me the longish journey to the nearest marque specialist.

Made up four aluminium brackets to take parking sensors from CISCO kit I bought. A test hookup had it working fine once I'd tapped into reversing light feed to power.
Need to paint brackets now to match car and sensors which are available in a range of colours. Plastic under tray mounting should leave discreet installation.

Took Morton for MOT - it passed . Second time for the test at Vehicle Works in Ixworth. Friendly competent and affordable people who know how to treat an LSD during brake test. They now have half a dozen Morgan customers and have already tackled a kingpin fit. So impressed I've booked our Mini in with them for fluid change and service.

Greased front suspension and changed oil and filter so Morton ready for six night holiday in I.O.W. next week. Hopefully
