Hi,

On my 2006 Morgan Plus4 it seems coolant G48 (blue) is used, as what I can find back in the garage history of the previous owner. As the coolant level is coming near to MIN on the expansion tank I have to take action.
As far as I can see the coolant has never been replaced, only filled up (at one time with pink coolant). Also good to mention is that on the inside of the expansion tank there is a white substance.

What is the best way to proceed as there are some ambiguities..
- Fill it up again with G48 (not easy to get)
- Remove all old coolant and replace it with G12+ (pink)
(Just drain the old coolant and replace it, or must the cooling system be completly flushed)
- Any other suggestions?

There is another thread, but this gives me not sufficient information.

Thanks for the advice.

Hi Rene,
Hope this helps .....
1. The colour of anti freeze is a dye and cannot be used to determine type.
2. My 2006 built 1.8 Duratec handbook clearly states Morris ethylene glycol anti freeze (the up to date Morris product called "MEG" ......monoethylene glycol). It's standard stuff. My handbook also covers the Plus 4 specifying same antifreeze.
3. I believe g48 and g12 are both ethylene glycol based but please do your own research to determine suitability. I stick to the book where possible.
4. I would suspect the white substance is limescale or formed solids due to low mileage and/or a poor coolant change regime (no criticism meant). You can't get very far into the tank so limescale remover might help (obviously take tank off car!).
5. The tanks are from Ford Focus RS MK1. There are two types very similar.
6. Notwithstanding what you use flush out all old coolant, a really, really good flush and replace.
7. If any doubt maybe your local friendly garage can give an opinion.

I replaced coolant in my car when new aluminium radiator fitted a few years ago. I used Mannol AF12+ which conforms to Ford spec for my Roadster and is available in 20 litre containers. It can be diluted but also used as is with freezing point of -40°C. This I confirmed with my refractometer and also that it matched the OE coolant. It has a minimum service life of 5 years.

Note MMC usually specify Morris lubricants and coolant as they appear to have a long standing association with the company.

New expansion tank if needed here.

There are YouTube guides on how to refresh badly stained plastic coolant tanks. Makes for interesting viewing.

The Ford ones have quite a few baffles and internal chambers as they sort of act as a swirl / burp pot so you can't just stuff a pressure washer down it to get it clean inside
