Not sure if this comment risks my GRRC membership; but having experience of both, we much prefer the Vintage Revival at Monthlèry!

There is still a waiting list, so be careful

Being frank, the busier both the FoS and the Revival have gotten, the less I have enjoyed them. Perhaps it is an age thing but I can see why something different would have more appeal.

The GRRC waiting list is very much like the one for Morgan cars: mythical! If you want to join the 10,000 other members you won't have long to wait.

I gave up my GRRC membership this year after 20+ years. There is nothing exactly like Goodwood but there is plenty quite like it at a fraction of the cost.

We’ve been to a number of different events across the UK and France, enjoyed many and always enjoyed our Goodwood MM weekend.
Would we attend again? Not sure!
Would we go back to France for the Vintage Revival?
Definitely, if circumstances allow.
But, maybe a new adventure awaits!

Sadly, I have more places I want to visit than time left to get round them all!! 🙂

Also, as it's the guts of 650 miles each way just to get to the South of England for Goodwood, the Continental events will have to wait for propitious logistics, such as a coinciding touring holiday!

As a first-timer I'm sure I'll find the Revival entertaining enough (it'll make a nice change from the diet of wrestling with an unco-operative racecar, digging ditches and debating with foresters about felling that currently dominates my waking hours!! 🙂)

couldn't agree more.... the days when FoS & Revival weren't as busy as the MM is today are a fond memory. GRRC's showcase events are a victim of their own success.

We tried various hospitality tickets over the years, and found that each subsequent year seemed to be a little less special & slightly poorer value than before.

& I found it remarkable that as a Member at the Revival last year, with a roving grandstand ticket, I couldn't sit & see the chicane/start/finish straight - it was all sold to corporates.

if we go to FoS or Revival at all, we've got into the habit of arriving when the gates open, and leaving when it's too busy to enjoy - which was around noon at last year's FoS!
& that's hardly getting good value from the event tickets.

Arriving earey, and taking a wander around the Paddocks is special though - last year I found myself chatting to a bloke who built the Brabham GP car he was taking the cover off... and describing how they used to run out of Araldite glue in the middle of putting the car together, and running down to the local hardware store to buy more!

K you will absolutely love it as you drink in the flavour and smells of R in the air it takes you back to misspent youth, you meet some lovely new friends too along the way nobody is in a rush.

I'll never forget an absolute stunner dropped her stole type wrap just in front of me so I dodged it and picked it up for her, she calmly responded with oh yes you wouldn't want to tread on my beaver would you, my SIL and I were left totally speechless which is indeed a rare thing. Before the laughter broke out between us all, quite a character and very Morningsideand and totally charming..

ps A shooting stick is handy as we walked about 7 miles a day..

Yes I gave up on the FoS I guess 1o plus years ago. As I get older crowds don't do it for me. But I must admit it is agreat event but now I prefer small village shows.

Years of racing have meant I've never made either the FOS or the Revival due to calendar clashes .... friends have driven at the FOS and their pics which include the crowd made me decide I was a decade too late for the level of people to be enjoyable (and competing at 'proper' hillclimbs it seemed a bit theatrical to me ... compounded by their refusal to let the genuine British Hillclimb Championship contenders even enter)

Hoping that being there from the Thursday night to the Monday morning and camping on site I'll be able to capitalise on the quieter times .... also admit to being more interested in the cars and racing than comparing hospitality areas (more a beer and fish n chips man than champers and oysters 🙂)... looking forward to the people-watching though 🙂 ... just hoping for decent weather ... makes all the difference to outdoor events.

You will love it K , we rented a room (shed in someones backyard) last year on the estate and were happy to find that we were closer than most of the carparks , chatting to the BRM mechanics and looking over the 2 x LeMans winning GT40 in the pits whilst having access everywhere was worth it to me -its a little way from home, so I shall be watching from afar this year.
