My passion has always been engineering and especially the period up to maybe 1950. There will be many other ground breaking engineers from that era......Barnes Wallace, Geoffrey De Havilland also spring to mind.

1. Ernest Shackleton - Antarctic Explorer Good choice. Alfred Lansing's book about the Shackleton expedition is one of the most gripping I have ever read in my life.
