Well the car is a revelation after having the various, quite minor, faults rectified. I can only assume that the previous owner was badly served by whoever looked at the car for him. A Morgan main dealer were the last to service it.
Anyway I thoroughly enjoyed a decent length drive and the car performed faultlessly. I've ordered some stainless door checks from Librands and will probably go for a spare wheel cover. Can anyone recommend a supplier ?
The front suspension is definitely next on the list. I wasn't happy with it on my 3.7 Roadster and I fitted the SSL kit. I feel it will make an even bigger difference on the Plus 8. Before taking the plunge, I'll have a chat with a friendly independent that I respect, unfortunately he's not local to me otherwise I'd ask him to do the work as well.

Before splashing out hundreds of £££'s - Take a look at fitting the rather cheaper option of "brake reaction bars". They transformed my 2019 Plus 4 front end immeasurably. Librands brake reaction bars - other manufacturers / sellers available

+1 with the brake reaction bars.
I would personally take a 2 stage approach and fit the BRB's first and see what improvements that make, and then when the front king pins require rebuilding consider the SSL kit if still felt necessary. I've had the SSL kit and BRB's on my Roadster and it didn't feel that much better (other than the option of raising front end by inch) than when I had BRB fitted when I had the front end rebuild using SS kingpins on my 70th 4/4.

Stainless steel kingins are the ones used as OE on recent trad Morgan's - the ones that wear and need renewing around 25,000 miles with regular greasing and much less if not. The favoured replacements are hard (engineering) chrome finish ones for great longevity.

Richard +1 I meant the hard chrome finish king pins, thanks for the correction.

Thanks for all the information and advice. All very helpful.
The SSL product does appear to be the most favored , although clearly not everyone has the same opinion/experience of it's merits.
I'm still waiting to get hold of a specialist friend who's worked on Morgans all of his life. He's fitted a few of the SSL front suspensions and I'll see what he thinks.

when I had my plus 8 it also had very harsh front suspension, new tyres, AVOs and BRBs made a huge improvement to the point where it was manageable. On my current Plus 4 the front end is totally standard and much more comfortable and hence enjoyable. The harsh front of the Plus 8 was one of the factors in the decision to change.
2012 Plus 4 in Sport Green. Much comfier than the Plus 8!

Given that it's the same basic suspension design, I wonder what the actual difference is between the Plus 8, your Plus 4 and say a 3.7 Roadster. Can it simply be the spring rates ? Am I right in thinking that the Plus 8 may have the rebound spring in compression and the others don't ?

I'm Reliably informed that original quality idle air valves are no longer available for the Hotwire cars. There's some good information on how they work on the GoMog site.
