I just went to our local branch of Halfords, (Exmouth) to get some wiper blades for my 2018 Mini.
Superb service from the young assistant,
He carefully checked that he was offering the correct items, including going to my car to double check,
I bought the wiper blades and he went back to the Mini and fitted them,
Two Bosch wiper blades, fitted, £21.58.

That's good service Simon, I have received good informed service from my local one at Newton turns out they attend college with Halfords and my crew had a visit to MMC included, so we had a good chat and look around my Plus 8. They were genuine enthusiasts and included a young lady which is encouraging.

I get my Bosch wiper blades, oils and filters here though.

I try to support my local independent motor parts / accessories shop, 'Pete' has amazing knowledge and a proper old school helpfulness, if he's busy serving I sometimes fit his wipers to his customer's car thumbs

I've always found the staff at Halfords friendly and helpful. My nearest was next to Sainsbury's and a convenient bolt-hole while Mrs W filled her trolly with the weekly groceries. Often I'd spend more than she did, although presumably not enough as the branch closed last month.

Same here. We no longer have a Halfords or an independent near us, I have to go to Gloucester or Cheltenham now. Or just use the internet and get it delivered next day at no cost.

I’ve just been informed, by a neighbour, that our local branch of Halfords, is planned for closure!
What a shame.
frown

We have a small independent in town, hopefully he’ll seize the opportunity!

I have two local branches within distance. Always found them useful for odds and sods. I asked the Basingrad shop manager how things were in the current climate as two of the retail sheds around him had closed?

1. They were making more on bikes than car parts
2. The ability to fit parts was of benefit to elderly and single mums etc who had less skill but not really used enough
3. Figures were not good.

His observation was that the complexity of modern cars were making it difficult to be considered and more people were using main stealers and some of the specialists more. Also the old fashioned go-faster market we knew from our youth had gone on-line to temu, alibaba and amazon.

As my local branch of Halfords is due to be shut in mid October, I drove there to replenish my stock of Meguiars products.
There are some significant discounts on a range of their stock. The Meguiars was discounted by 20 %.
So well worth a look, if you need anything.

Halfords, first class tools. But i remember going into my local branch a few years back and asking for a part for my MOG. The person behind the counter started to question me, asking was it a Honda? I did ask Honda? She replied yes a Honda Morgan? At this point people behind me started laughing etc. This is the problem with life today. One day a sales person could be working in a shoe shop, the next in Halfords! As it was, i was recommended to go to a smaller auto store in the City and i ended up speaking to a guy who had been there 30 years at the time. 40 years now.

I know it's not Halfords fault. The society we live in demand the cheapest product possible and so the staff are generally on minimum wages etc and really don't care about the punter (Most not all) . Anyway rant over.

On an other note went to the Moto-Lita factory near Amesbury, the other day with Oxmog, Swanmog etc. First class products. You can see why the Steering wheels/Jackets cost so much! He was telling us how the stuff from the Far East undercut them, but very sadly start to fall apart after a couple of years. We really must, as a Country wean ourselves off these cheap and nasty stuff from China!
