Very nice and achieves the same as the Empire kit but not the same thing I am talking about.

Sounds like a mileage-based change out of the Empire bearings and track-rod ends makes sense vs the approach of expecting wear to trigger replacement before any other problems surface. The geomtry/loading for the bearings on our cars may be outside the normal range esp after 27,000 miles.

Happily our Empire/Krazy Horse kit is still new so should be less worrisome and we strongly echo the benefits it brings to steering/handling

If anyone’s interested, eBay seller dangerusdave00 has some ‘new old stock’ NMB rod ends that he’s selling off at good prices.

The description is ‘NMB Minebea ARHT6E(R) 3/8" Bore x 7/16" UNF Rod Ends’.

He may not have them listed but will probably create a special eBay listing for you if you contact him directly – at least, that’s what he did for me. Expect to pay £25-£30 per rod end, depending on how many you buy. Last time I checked he had 15 in stock.

If you still have the original Krazy Horse supplied rod end bearings they will probably be worn by 15,000 anyway, if you chose to leave them in place that long. The loading/geometry is well within the operating range for these bearings in good condition I am told. It's the condition of them that will change with mileage, that's the bit we need to keep an eye on. The Aurora XM-6 bearing should not have broken. I suspect this may just be an issue with these Aurora bearings, I won't be using them again.

Plucking a figure out of the sky I intend checking my newly installed NMB ARHT6E(R) rod end bearings after two years or 10,000 miles. I may NDT check them and refit if there are no fault indications or wear.

With hindsight I should have removed the Aurora bearings and inspected them at some point earlier but there was no reason to suspect there was a problem. There was little or no wear in the bearing itself and only very minor surface corrosion. The crack was only just above the locknut and not in a visible area.
