In recent very heavy rain and travelling at slow speed I had an annoying drip coming through the seam in the mohair Easy Up hood. It was dripping on the back of my head or to the left or right depending on the cornering forces. It stopped as soon as I got some straight road and was able to go faster.

I don't want to use wax or anything else that may accumulate dirt so I was thinking about some sort of waterproofing spray for material.

Any ideas anyone?

Used that, post treatment It's the only time I've seen water 'bead' on the hood rather than soak in thumbs

We have had the same thing but luckily behind my wife's head, I have put Fabsil waterproofer on it and haven't had any heavy rain since then to try it out. Renovo do some good products as well I believe but have never tried them. https://www.renovointernational.com/car-care/ultra-proofer.php

As mentioned above, try a clean and recondition. I find mine seems to keep the water at bay after a treatment.

Bar that, do a test on an inconspicuous area of any sort of waterproofer to ensure you are happy with the look and feel after said proofing.

Good luck!

I used Revovo on my first 4/4. Worked well as a proofer. But, if you take the hood off to proof it (advisable so as not to get any on bodywork) refit hood in erect position until things dry - hood can shrink slightly.

Good call on that latter point Graham. I made the mistake of taking my mohair hood down shortly after washing car once. It was a pig to errect later due to shrinkage. I now leave hood up to dry out overnight before taking down.

Next time you see John V6 you can ask him about RTA's hood! It was difficult to erect for the remainder of my ownership! grin2

Well you did will loose the plot and try to impress your young female navigator . It was a good job John Stride & I were there & could give you helpful advice from inside the dry warm pub. Such a shame the sun then came out as we left & you had to take it all downlaugh2 laugh2
