Good luck with the Dealer repairs when you return.

Thank you Richard.

My dealer will pick up the car and repair it again. The first thing to solve is the problem of water ingress. This is damaging the circuit board that is responsible for the ventilation and heating control.
Then a new circuit board can be installed.
I hope they give you top service so you and your good lady can enjoy any dry spells still to come.

Yes ... a lot of water gets into the interior of the vehicle through the wiper axles. Water then enters the interior via the dashboard.

Richard ... thank you for your words. We'll solve that problem too ... I'm optimistic about that

Hi Clemens, I had water ingress too during heavy rainfall, behind the centre of the dash. Two days later, when I took the PlusFour to the dealer the central wiper suddenly came loose, but did stay attached. Cannot by coincidence. They have sortend it, collect the car this week!

Several weeks ago I had water entering via the dashboard. As a result, the rotary knob for the heating no longer worked. In the display, the circle from blue to red was no longer visible when the switch was turned and the clock stopped.
My dealer fitted a new circuit board and the heater and clock worked again. I was told that the spindles on the windshield wiper had been twisted and that the seal was now OK. At the same time, the selector lever was removed and the one from Morgenpark installed. The button for the P function was fitted under the dash.
During my trip to Como, water got into the vehicle again. This time the rotary knob for the ventilation no longer worked. The circle for the ventilation level is no longer visible in the display. The clock still works, but the P button also stopped working while driving in the rain. After the vehicle was dry, the P button worked again. The ventilation has been faulty ever since.
My dealer has passed this on to MMC. I wonder what will be done this time. In any case, the vehicle will be picked up again in the next few days.

Good luck Clemens! Such stupid faults can be so annoying. And MMC says that they are so proud on their quality department, next to the CEO's office......! It always takes some time before you have the major faults sorted. Never been otherwise....! 🤷‍♂️😳

What I find amazing is just simple things like this, were they still get ingress of water thru wiper shafts. Whereas every other vehicle manufacturers seems to find solutions to such an inevitable eventuality every time it rains. The warranty costs must be horrendous, if it takes out the PCB and other control switches, for the sake of better design and execution during the build stage.

Its not as if its a new problem even 40 odd years ago my mass produced MG Midgets a similar wiper application/design could keep water out from the wiper shafts. Does it not rain in Malvern? It would frustrate me, knowing potentially every time it rained, could see your car off the road for a while whilst being fixed and more importantly why are they fixing it again. You want the assurance that in wet conditions, your car will operate safely.

Maybe they should consider introducing a wet room as part of the quality control procedure, subject the car to monsoon type rain, to check for leaks and the operation of wipers , lights etc. before despatching to customers.

Agreed, its not good is it, but a healthy dob of silicone grease on the spindles cured my drip, worth a try if it prevents a load of grief.

On trads it is not just the spindles the hole cut in the bulkhead for the bevel box spindle is done badly by hand & the gasket fails over time & in places only has a small area to seal on. With every "new to me" car I replaced the gasket & sealed it with black silicone. The spindles were greased & a small o ring put on the shaft after the spindles were bolted down.

The CX cars use a completely different wiper mechanism arrangement to the Trad design, its a series of rods and rose joints, it looks to be a MMC creation rather than a previous manufacturer design. We had loads of grief with ours and ( touch wood) on the 3rd factory undertaken system replacement did we get it working ok. I will try and post a picture of it when I get back in..
