Aaaarrrrgggghhhh! arr

I think that's a good move, Avast scored higher in the CA tests anyway. If AVG is still blocking two weeks later, that isn't very reassuring about the product's support.

It's a little strange that adding an exception hasn't fixed it, it certainly worked for me when I tested the free version. AVG does have a separate browser plugin and I noticed that the messages Dave posted earlier in this thread came from the Chrome helper app. If anyone using AVG wants to persist with it, I guess it might be necessary to add the exception to the AVG browser extension as well as the main product.

Not using the AVG browser Ian.
I was trying to access TM-IMG directly (Chrome browser) in order to upload a couple of photos taken on Saturday, at Prescott. When AVG blocked me, that was the end of it. So byebye AVG free, welcome Avast free. The user interface is almost identical to AVG.

I didn't mean the AVG browser Graham but the AVG extension to Chrome. You might want to check that you haven't still got it in Chrome, by the way, as it left it in place when I deinstalled AVG last week.

I've discovered that Avast bought AVG in 2016, which would explain why they look the same. The code is clearly different though. I've found several reports of bizarre behaviour from AVG including a user whose own browser history was blocked. In 2012 AVG managed to get Rick Astley's video of "Never Gonna Give You Up" removed from YouTube by falsely claiming the copyright. laugh

As to TM-IMG, the site VirusTotal.com has checked it with over 100 AV products and gives it a clean bill of health.

I'll write up something but Ian Wegg probably knows as well so he might get in first. Just a caveat - don't do it of you're not sure, if you make a mistake, it's a case of re-installing Windows!!! (And all your other programs).

I recently had an "upgrade" to Windows 11 foisted upon me, totally unrequested and a bit of a nightmare to uninstall it and go back to Windows 10. Take care !!

AVG not in my Chrome extensions on the main PC Ian. 'll check the backup one later, but I wasn't using that when the error recurred.
No problems now that AVG is gone. Reported the reason for the uninstall, twice. Bet it doesn't make any difference to them smile

What is it that you don't like about Windows 11? I have it on my 2 Windows PCs and, in part, bought a new laptop because my old one could not be upgraded from Win 10 to Win 11.

Sorry, having had a think about it, there really would be no "Idiot's Guide". You really have to know what you are doing before you tackle footering with the registry. It's at the heart of Windows and if you type a comma instead of a full stop or similar, Windows will laugh at you.
