"Ignore me though I can remember when fuel was half a crown a gallon"
I've had a driving licence for 67 years now and petrol was four and eleventhree a gallon when I started driving (five shillings or 25p for the youngsters here) Looking back at the records I see petrol was around half a crown a gallon in 1948

Back in 1966 10 bob (50p) would buy me 4 gallons for the Midget. When I moved back from Jersey in 1986 I was horrified to find diesel was £1.60 per gallon on the mainland as apposed to about 50p in Jersey.

My first proper weekend job in early 1971 just after decimalisation, was as a pumpy at the local garage. 3,4 & 5 star petrol out of 3 individual pumps, with long delivery arms that swung out over the pavement. I recall 3 star at 33.3p a gallon.

It was said in my original post as a giveaway in humour but as you made it a thing a little clarification is necessary

Have been busy repairing the front suspension on an accident damaged Proton Satira GTI rally car so not really had much time to work on any of the Mogs.
Day off on Monday so popped down to Herefordshire/Gloucestershire to collect a new three wheeler petrol tank from Steve Barnes at VSM then took the tank to Dave Cameron to fit to my 1933 Super Sports body, then loaded that into the van.
(Daves work is excellent by the way!)
Then over to Terry Foxen's to pick up the new chassis for my 1938 4-4!

This would have been around 1954. I also recall the top 100 octane being just over 5 shillings a gallon when introduced later. I also remember my Mum describing the ranting of her father when petrol hit 10d a gallon! The same man apparently had a habit of innocently when he knocked another trafficator off his car.

Having fitted the new style sprung wipers they were still reluctant to start so I stripped the box out and cleaned the 25 year old grease out and renewed it with LM and it's working good again. Saddo that I am I thoroughly enjoyed listening to R3 on my Becker Mexico in car box whilst jobbing Twas bone dry but a road test was necessary of course

Trying to solve my fuel vapour lock problem. Replaced facet fuel pump and insulated the fuel line to the carbs from the bulkhead but the car still refuses to fire immediately after stopping. Takes 30-45 secs of turning the key for the car to fire. In 260k miles and 40 years driving never had this problem. heading to Greece next Autumn and need to solve the problem.
