Are these made of Unobtainium or specially hardened in some way? ... looking at the pic, on the face of it these aren't beyond the wit of the average workshop-dweller to knock up themselves if they can't be purchased.... or am I missing something?

According to the Girling catalog, that particular wheel cylinder is fitted to the following cars ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2024/10/06/image.png) so maybe one of those car clubs would have a source for the parts. Otherwise, can you just make a set of new parts? I always leave mine in gear when parked anyway, just in case the handbrake fails, or the passenger knocks the flyoff handle...

In other words, we, the community owners, have more component information than any supplier. That is why we have to help those who wish to supply us most accurately and at the best prices. Merely calling up and asking for a car part made 30-80 years ago is not as helpful. gmg

I always leave mine in gear when parked anyway, just in case the handbrake fails, or the passenger knocks the flyoff handle... I asked a local workshop if they could make them. They were a bit concerned about the steel required and the heat treatment. They have obviously been hardened after machining. There are other workshops near by but as I need one as a pattern I haven't yet approached them. The Jowett parts list shows them as "Drawlink 481841" but I haven't yet found them elsewhere. The Rover P4 has a similar Drawlink but without the twist. And yes I always leave it in gear when parked.

Good spot in the Jowett parts list ! I guess another possible straw to clutch at would be the Beaulieu Autojumbles or maybe the NEC restoration/classic car show...

*1284 Draw Link (481841) 54381 ref comes from here Page 71 of the Jowett manual so that is their number. Might come in handy at autojumble.

I found the wheel cylinders which have now been replaced but I cannot find the drawbars that operate the handbrake. As mine were cracked and have been welded I am wary that they may fail again ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2024/08/16/H_BrakeBars.jpg) `i spoke with Dave at Longbridge Motors on another matter and he has a range of drawbars for that wheel cylinder (and also the little round thingies and little almost square pieces that actuate the brake shoes). He can be contacted at https://www.longbridgemotorspares.co.uk/. (Mon/Wed/Fri) - he would need the length of your drawbar to make sure he has the right part - so maybe a picture of it, with a ruler next to it would be best.

Thanks Dave, that's useful to know. I'll get the measurements. I did draw it as best I could but may have thrown it away as it wasn't to the standard I should do.
