My daughter would like to get insurance for our Year 2000 4/4 but the prices we are getting quoted are over £1000 for classic insurance with me as a named drive. She is 22 and none of the insurers i have called will put her on my insurance as a named driver because she is under 25, does have anyone have any experience of this ? any help gladly recieved.

Expect the Peter James policy would cover her if she became a MSCC member. Usually it is easier to get a non classic insurance as often works out cheaper

Perhaps Ewan will be along with the name of whoever insured his lad for the Ferarri! ? 🙂... seem to remember it was surprisingly cheap.

My brother insures his son on his people carrier by the hour. No idea who with. For the occasions when he wants a second driver, it works out quite reasonable - even though if annualised it would be horrendous. Might be worth researching

The Ferrari was the easiest of all, originally with Aviva direct with the old one then when they insisted on a tracker, I changed to Admiral. Admiral insured me for around £500 and added my son (23y.o.) for around £200. It was incredible value and although I’ve never experienced a claim, each time I phoned I had a real person, knowledgeable and helpful. That included across Europe driving, commuting, autobahns street parking on holiday and still no tracker required.
The Morgan is still with Aviva direct, about £400 for the two of us. Those mainstream outfits would do the Caterham so it’s done through a broker “be wiser” he’s always been pretty decent, it’s about £400 too if I recall correctly.

I can only assume the algorithms make the Ferrari the lowest risk, after all, who in their right mind would give their 23yo son a 700hp £180k Ferrari to drive as fast as he can on the Autobahn 😂 (138mph was as fast as he could!)

Admiral are really good with claims. When I got TBONED by a drunk driver despite his insurance company ignoring all attempts by Admiral to contact them they paid my claim circa £24k. The other insurance company went into liquidation but Admiral eventually after 4 years got my £750 excess back.

I had a multi-car with Admiral for the Aero Coupe, price for the car was good.

I did not have a younger person on it so cannot comment on that aspect.

Someone bent the front in the Reading Oracle car park and Admiral agreed quickly to send it back to the factory for full repair and did not quibble. I was offered the spare car (Focus level) but did not take it as I had the Merc and don't normally abuse a privilege given they were using the factory for the repair.

Usual cobblers around every renewal - jack the price up, long boring phone call, bought back to slightly less than last year.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Ewan, thanks for that, it represents amazing value for money when the risk is considered.

Well I mean neither of us would fancy it would we ?

It’s a pity there’s not a facility to add young drivers when the policy holder is in the passenger seat, that would be a great way to allow others to experience cars they’d otherwise not be able to, the owner/policy owner acting as a chaperone similar to a co driver while learning.

Another trick to keep in mind, you can pay the annual surcharge for the additional young driver and remove them later when it’s no longer required, winter for instance, the surcharge will be refunded pro-rata.
