Don't you just love a lurker. Why can't your lurker share the information with you (if they want to remain lurkerish) and you post it here for everyone's benefit?

But that is his choice to remain helpful and on the edges of the forum rather than get dragged into disputes.

Dutch , I gather you have asked a similar question on other forums , so I guess you have not found an answer. If you PM me your email address I will put you in touch with John who will be able to help you .

Having a 1980 Plus 8 for the last thirty six years, the closest I got to having a similar problem was once when the oil was low and the pressure sensitive switch would cut the engine out after a short distance.

A Petronix distributor, coil, and new spark plug wires solved the problem. No more stalling !

I wanted to change out all the 40 year old coolant hoses so I got the 4 special ones that my mechanic wouldn't be able to source. Started the car to take it to his garage and no clutch. It's been a problem before. Reservoir was empty. Filled it up, pumped the pedal and got the clutch back. My mechanic called me and said "We've got something you should look at" Never a good thing. Seems the water pump was leaking and the clutch master was leaking. Parts are on the way more Morgan Spares and then back to the repair shop. Then new water pump, hoses and rebuild the clutch master.

When it dies, did you notice if the tach dropped to zero instantly?
The tach lead comes from the coil. I have had the wiring going to the 12VDC supply to the coil go bad.
Grimy black at the push-on connector on the coil. Stripped the wire back to shiny and crimped on a new push on connector.
The wire wasn't making a good contact, bad crimp/groddy, with the connector. Metered the connector to coil; was ok, the wire at the female was toast.

Very disconcerting have the car die suddenly on the interstate...Tach would instantly drop to 0.

The car was in the shop for 2 1/2 days. I had to take the new water pump to my machine shop to get the hub cut down to fit. Got all the hoses replaced 25 new hose clamps. Oil change, checked transmission and differential oil. Differential was a little low. transmission OK. Got fan belt replaced too. Clutch master rebuilt

Labor $ 850 Parts another $ 450. The car should be a reliable driver now. Really glad I've got a local shop that will work on the car.
