Hi all,

Has anyone had Neil Oakley of Lite-Steer fit his speed sensitive electric power steering system to their Trad Morgan?

He seems to have completed a number of conversations on modern Trads including at least one Duratec Plus 4 of more or less the same build date as mine, the following images were taken from the Lite-Steer Facebook page.




The above conversation looks very neat, this and the other modern Trad conversations Neil has completed suggests to me he will have perfected a fully developed installation for my 2012 Plus 4. It also looks like Lite-Steer have been offering these conversions for over 15 years now so one can only assume Neil must have built up significant knowledge on the subject?

His prices seem reasonable too, so to conclude my research I'm hoping someone on TM will be able to provide me with honest feedback on the Lite-Steer speed sensitive electric power steering conversation, and the service they received from Neil Oakley.

No but my 2013 +4 was fitted with electric power syeering from new by Morgan, in fact it was the press car for it. Works perfectly no probs finger light but you can feel the road.

Is the Morgan system speed sensitive, or is the level of assistance manually adjustable on a potentiometer?

No adjustment to my knowledge Dave. I know one Roadster owner who has put a dashboard switch on the control feed to effectively disable it temporarily. Tried it on mine by pulling the control fuse. After 5 miles I'd had enough heaving around the 205 tyres with smallish Motolita so replaced it. Assistance seems to be there at least until 60 mph so probably all the time.

It appears Litesteer either use the electronic speedo pulse or a GPS speed sensor to limit /reducing the assistance from 30 mph and above

I know I'm from The Netherlands and EZ is a Dutch company, but several Morgan owners had made the conversion by EZ. See the article by Harry Metcalfe about his Countach EZ conversion! It is speed dependent and he can manually adjust the amount of assistace1

Dave I feel it reduces with speed but with 185 section tyres it's difficult to tell as occasionally it cuts out (until I squeeze the big connector under the dash) I don't notice until I slow down considerably.

Dave, Keith's will most likely have the early version which was a properly developed outsourced component with speed sensor unit in the electronics, MMC then 'value engineered' and fell out with the supplier, the later version (read more basic) is what became the factory option fit approx 2016 onwards, later was std fit on 3.7 Roadsters as per Richard V6 and mine, & yes, I've made mine switchable

Yep my 2014 Roadster had the original which mmc copied. It worked very well.

I have the Dutch EZ system and am very satisfied. Of course I have not tried any alternative, but I am very happy with this one. EZ delivers both manual and speed sensitive regulation. Mine is was fitted as manual, without anybody really asking which I preferred. Perfectly ok with me, I prefer to be in charge myself. Hence my recommendation is manual. I seldom change the setting, though. It is on full power almost all of the time. Recently I have fitted Michelin Pilot Sport tyres, which are very sensitive. On the verge of being nervous in higher speeds, so I might experiment with reducing the power. The EZ has been fitted to quite a number of Morgans here i Norway, everybody is happy as far as I know.
