once again, it‘s me…

Just out for a testdrive I noticed: no drivinglights.

Rear lights, parking lights and high beam are working. But both driving lights where dead. Where dead? A few miles later I noticed: there are lights reflecting at the car in front of me. And at home: they work!

I think that‘s something that we call a „Wackler“ in Germany. Any idea for a first look? Is the a wiring diagram for a look at it as a help?

René if your problem is within the headlamp it's connector is the one below the new three pin connector I installed for switchback LED's in indicator position. Its a similar Econoseal 4 pin connector.



With wheel off it can easily be seen. Remove cable ties then press in plastic release to allow the connector to be parted. Clean and re-make.

Check also that tyre on full lock has not chaffed the wires. You can see some sign of the chaffing on mine. I recall adding some extra cable ties after the photo was taken. Note my new wires for switchbacks are protected by plastic spiral.

If your issue is with both dipped beam headlamps then it's probably the light switch stalk on the main/dip toggle that's become intermittent. Note unlikely to be a fuse issue since each headlamp filament is fused individually left and right. If this is your issue then check out this thread on replacing stalk.

But there are both frontlights switched off. And I also try to switch on and off and on and off a few times. So I‘m affraid it isn‘t the stalk, but something between?

And: I have a look around about the STC4017 switch. There are LUCAS and BRITPART available, there is a massive difference in the pricetag. Is there also a difference in quality?

Apologies for not getting back to you sooner René. If the headlight main beams are working ok but not dip/low beams then problem is very likely at stalk switch, although you could check connector to same. You can order stalk switch here if shipping is not an issue.They are likely all the same quality from the various sources but agree prices do vary, so why pay more?

thank you for the link. I‘ve ordered the stalk from „Paddocks“. It’s on the way and I wait.

But: the last journey with the MOG, the light works. But I know it from my 1990 MINI. Allways good for an automatic switch.

So waiting for the next „off“ and the new stalk.
