Here in Boynton Beach (Palm Beach County, Florida) fish and chips go for $15.95 (12.3 pounds) at Hurricane Alley to $22 (17 pounds) at Two Georges, according to current exchange rate.

A bit off to one side, the cheapest Ice Cream cone at Platform One in Dartmouth is £3 - 95 and it's nothing special.
The Salcombe Dairy one's in town are a ludicrous price.

Talking of ice cream - a big fan. When in Italy we get our gelato made for us at an agri Co-op that also does wonderful cheese, butter, cooked meats etc . They are just so accommodating and friendly . It is €19 a kilo and if we order it in the afternoon, they make it for the next morning. I hate white chocolate but this white chocolate and raspberry product is incredible. Our friends think it is the best tasting ‘ ice cream ‘ they have ever had. I have a friend who started a gelato business in south London a few years back, great flavours but in honesty, not as good but still good . I wouldn’t eat an ice cream in a car with sheepskin mats.

Went to our local chippy yesterday evening, 3 fish, 2 chips, 2 peas, 1 curry sauce £12.60 all generous portions.

My local chippy did a great job replacing the rotten wood on my porch. I never thought of asking him if he also fries fish.

Wow that's good value.

That sounds delicious, I expect we shall be imbibing this week as we have No2 daughter and family staying with us.

On our trip last spring we were somewhat shocked to see the prices of fish & chips at Oban. One evening a young guy who was on a run with a van collecting laundry at our rented appartment told us that he used to buy fish and chips for dinner before returning to his family's business several hours drive away. He was more than happy to accept a plate of pasta that Alis was cooking.



We certainly ate some good seafood while we were there but paying what we saw as restaurant prices for take-away seemed a bit rich for us.

By the way: Prosecco seems to have become the universal glass of sparkling wine. We consume quite a bit during the course of the year but we do have sources of supply for excellent Prosecco at reasonable prices. Since Prosecco does come from a fairly limited area we do wonder how so much is now on the international market.
