From my distant memory I believe this was quietly sorted by the factory a few years ago with software updates to the box?? Although you still need to respect the fact that its the BHP going through the rear drive..

There were a reasonable number of Aero 8 S1s that were crashed for similar reasons (although all were manual) and quite a few were written off, more than one close to the factory after the owner(s) collected them, and at least one was rebuilt and put back on the road.

I wonder how much of it stems from modern cars allowing drivers to take all manner of liberties and the systems in modern cars almost 'bending physics' to keep the driver out of trouble. Obviously the Plus Six doesn't have such systems and the Aero 8 certainly didn't!

I believe being used to background control systems in a vehicle such as stability, anti lock, traction control etc all quietly working away would in time have a tendancy to reduce driver awareness or the "feel" of the vehicle.. Some would argue that this is technology improving safety.... which it is, but when its not fitted to a vehicle and you do not give a high BHP simple drive system some respect, it could bite you... Part of the AMG training track day demonstrated what happened when the cars background control systems were turned off.. We practised each system being turned off in turn.. whew.. it was something else, an absolute eye opener.....

Correct the shift down could be savage they now have traction control. But also the turbo delivers a very flat torque curve and the auto keeps the engine in the torque range. That is why I bought a manual P4 for better control and planned the KH ECU chip upgrade which MMC blocked.

This is the chippped KH P4 auto but the 6 will be similar only higher.

Rgr John, ref the latest MY Plus Six having traction control. I remember several years ago discussion about an autobox software update to help stop some of the tendency to suddenly shift down. I can remember we did not have much info as to what exactly had been done.. a bit like your MMC locked ECU. I know it seemed different, "softer" on the changes...I have adapted to it now, its still a raw machine when asked.
