I hate all the modern car control systems applied to low end cars.
https://www.msn.com/en-gb/cars/news/everything-telegraph-readers-hate-about-modern-cars/ar-AA1sZKUy
Traction control, stability control etc is fine on high powered ones, but who needs it on a 60 bhp town car? swear Hill start is a PITA along with electric handbrakes.
As for the "multi function screens" I think that is already covered in another thread.
(I should have kept my last 06 MINI or Saab, both of which were reasonably free of such nanny systems soapbox )

Agree 100% - I particularly can't stand all the bells, whistles and so-called driver aids that constantly intrude.

I'd go so far as to say that it's putting me off buying a new car and I'll probably stick with an older model for as long as it's practical. I actually traded my nearly new car for my current older Lexus partially for those reasons.

On icy winter roads, traction and stability control are useful features even on low powered cars, but there should always be an easy way to turn off such systems. I am still annoyed by my indicator switch on my Plus 4 turning off by itself when I want to have it on!

Much as it pains me to agree with any Torygraph reader, I really don't like my partners Golf - far too many distractions and 'aids'. Much prefer my very analogue MG and Morgan.....

Actually the electric handbrake works a treat on our F54 Mini once you've learnt to trust the hill hold. Its also one of the most powerful I've ever used despite only single piston calipers.

South Africa is a RHD market with a good climate so low rust issues, some nice locally made BMW's floating around?

Recently had a Peugeot 208 rental in Reunion. In reverse it would only rev/limited to 2k until you are moving, didn't know this!. Was up a mountain at 2300m parked in a loose rock strewn car park.I couldn't reverse it as it was steep and couldn't move forward. Needed 4 guys to push me backwards on to the flat.

Which? magazine ran a similar story earlier this year Car tech features you could live without. "...some of the car technology people considered unnecessary included touchscreens (56%) zoned climate control (53%), lane sensors (53%) and automatic full beam lights (50%)."

My 2013 Mazda 2 has little more tech than my 1980 Morgan, and I plan to hang on to both. I hired a new MG a few weeks ago but in 4 days I didn't really get to grips with its features, I didn't even find the cruise control until the last day! However, my wife was impressed with the automatic dipping lights which did seem to work ok, unlike the automatic wipers.
