When I last looked the stalks, lights and wipers, appeared to becoming scarce particularly wiper ones with price rising accordingly. Having used my spare light stalk I managed to secure a pair on eBay for under £100. I did wonder if sources would eventually dry up but a check just now reveals my bookmarked stalks are still available. Light/indicator stalk. Wiper stalk or both noting that the latter are still available for £99.99.

Regarding quality of replacements I have no reason to believe then are any worse than the original ones fitted by MMC if indeed they are not since they all came in Lucas box's. Certainly no mention of Britpart which in any case I have no serious gripes with given my Land Rover experience.

I ordered my new LUCAS stalk from Paddocks.

I was to fast for to read Richards idea. Now I Look forward how they manage the German Zoll. I‘ve made two bad expieriences in the past. But I also read about some stalks as a spare at the shelf?

So I think about the next Ferry to Britain?

René, I wish you all the best with German customs.
My SIL went through a horrendous nightmare last week. Unfortunately at my instigation, I didn't know what a debacle I would cause, I had meant well.
My SIL and our daughter are looking for nice sounding speakers. Now I learned from the British Pinkfishmedia hi-fi forum that Stirling Broadcast is closing the company for reasons of age. The remaining speakers will be sold for about half the money. As I have been a very happy user of a BBC Stirling Broadcast LS3/6 for eight years I suggested this deal to my SIL. No sooner said than done. The speakers arrived in Cologne a week ago. With invoice, customs documents, German operating instructions (you can't do without them). But.....now the speakers are being inspected by the “German Federal Network Agency”. I didn't know that recently even electrically passive devices need a CE seal which the speakers do not have. Even the RoHS papers were included. But it's not enough. Today my SIL gets the final notification from the Federal Network Agency, but there is a 95% chance that the speakers will have to be returned or destroyed (although the very same came to Germany regularly via a German importer until Brexit).

I hope things go more smoothly with your electrics for the indicators from the UK.
I think we are living in the Middle Ages with the authorities as highwaymen.

I do hope they see sense and let them thru.

But we do seeming to be heading back to the more difficult times, eg when the UK although had been exporting into the EEC when a member of the EEA, UK upon becoming an EEC member, suddenly France enforced a requirement for certificate of origin, to block UK 's growing exports into France, for pure domestic protectionism reasons. It lead to the UK having to reintroduce the famous Kite mark on everything , the kite mark was subsequently replaced by the CE mark.

I do wonder whether more EU domestic protectionism is influencing customs actions.

There is no differentiation, perhaps out of malice. This Federal Network Agency is a juggernaut. All the import regulations serve to prevent thousands of small, cheap Chinese bluetooth speakers from flooding the market, for example. Ok, but a time-honored, expensive handmade BBC speaker is treated in the same way.
It's just one example of a new petty-bourgeois pedantic and subliminally sadistic regionalism.

Hello Heinz,

I‘ve got some expierience. Especially DHL. Some time ago I send my ECU to the factory for the flash. For the shipping they ask about how much is it worth? In cause of the regulations there is a limit of less! than 1000,-GBP. Okay, a used ECU half price. 900GBP. Perfect. After two days the ECU arrives in the factory. The flash was done, than back home.

After a FEW days I‘ve got a call from the factory what‘s about the ECU? They got an email from DHL that I wouldn‘t get it and it would be scrapped.

A call to DHL: oh, a mistake. After some! days more I‘ve got a mail. DHL wants some money for the shipping and tax procedere. Okay, paid. After one or two days: parcel in customservice. Next day: parcel is on its way… next day: problems in customservice, please wait. Than: parcel in transport… next: arriving in customservice (somewhere in Eastern Germany). I call DHL and ask about the problem. No problem, usual doing. I ask for transport to the Hauptzollamt in my hometown. Impossible in cause DHL must do it!

This changed A LOT OF TIMES. At one point the parcel was in Frankfurt. Easy to went to the Customservice for some Questions and answers. Impossible, DHL must do it.

In all the times no mail or call from DHL.

After six or seven weeks a call again and: I must pay about 180,-EUR for the procedure! If not the parcel would be scrapped. But if I pay I can clear it later… so I paid.

A few days later I‘ve got the ECU. Not demaged. A call to DHL: the 180EUR where tax. I send a 900GBP parcel to Britain and got a 1800GBP parcel back. So I must pay tax for the difference. So far, so clear. I must tax my own ECU.

So far, so good. But the point: in all these days no reaction, call or mail from DHL for information or clear the situation. All calls are done by me.

But now, I‘m optimistic. After some less stressful parcels ;-)

Greets René

How awful, René. I don't know if I would have kept calm in your place. But it doesn't change anything if I run through the pedestrian zone screaming loudly.

Richard, it wouldn't surprise me if all the units are made in the same factory and just boxed up differently for the wholesale supply chain, probably even the same ones for OE, JLR ?

At some points I think the same. One of my friends work for a big TV-maker.

After the main-electronic was finished it was tested. The best ones get the original factory body. The „not so good ones, but working“ gets a cheaper body and where labeled for another factory and sold as bargains.

You get what you pay for?
