The insurance renewal has come in for the Morgan and has predictably increased (by £44 - which isn't too bad given what some have gone up by). Mrs FT (a named driver on the policy) has however, come out of retirement and is back at work two days a week. As she has cover for driving any car on her own Evoque insurance I thought I'd take her off the Morgan insurance and see if that brought the price down at all as she doesn't like driving it so it's only for emergencies. No, that increased the price by a further £77. So I put her back on as a named driver and informed the company that she had gone back to work. Amazingly that actually reduced the insurance by £23 over what we would have paid if she had been retired. So having a working spouse as a named driver resulted in the best value insurance with an increase of just £21 over last year, which I can live with.

The whole thing is mad. We put our son who is 30 on my wifes car mid term. Aviva did it for free despite the fact he had just written of his car in an accident he caused.

It's always cheaper to have a second driver on the insurance. Maybe they think it will result in fewer drink drive collisions if the wife drives.
