Yes the issue can be with the black nylon follower shown below with other relevant parts after disassembly. ![[Linked Image]](https://tm-img.com/images/2024/07/16/P1060651.jpg) The slotted follower can expand and jam in the nut. Mine was just becoming tight so I reduced it slightly with abrasive paper before re-assembly and adjustment. Much calmer steering afterwards. Note other owners have complained of over lively steering and/or steering wheel shimmy especially after removing damper blades and fitting steering bearings, as OE on later cars. Cures have varied between retaining damper blades or even installing a steering damper which may have just hidden the issue of a loose rack

LoLo, Probably need to drill down on what your steering play is!
With the car stationary and turning the wheel from side to side just until you feel fairy strong resistance on each lock, so not a great movement, are you hearing a clonk/knock sound each side as you turn from lock to lock? If so then it could most likely be wear in the outer tube of the rack and that would be cerberas' remodel action.
If not then it might be the dreaded nylon rack damper and daveW has an excellent thread on that cure. Don't forget to check the rack to cross head security and the track rod ends at each wheel before you embark on any fix though!
You're welcome to give me a shout if you need more in depth help as I'm afraid steering issues are a thing with the MOG, Gets easier when you get to fully understand it's foibles and it is usually more than one thing that causes the problem so its not necessarily the last thing that just needs attention!

In the end I greased the rack and adjusted the play with the GOMOG procedure: https://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/r&p.htmlI did a test drive tonight and the car has completely changed, precise steering and no more vibration. Thanks for your advice.
