I had some running issues with the 4/4. The shafts on the Weber 32/36 DGV seemed a bit loose, and I suspected they could be sucking air. That, and the fact that it's 51 years old, I decided to replace it. When I got the new one, I took it apart and adjusted the float. It's a plastic float and the metal attachment seemed a little loose, but I put it back together and the car ran well.
About a week or so later it started to run worse. Seemed to be running rich. I took it apart again and the float was out of adjustment. I looked closer at it and the fit of the float is terrible, and the metal is very easily bent. I don't doubt that bumps in the road can cause it to bend.
I took apart the old carb and used its brass float. Much better fit. I feel confident now that the adjustment will stay. Still had some slight running issues. Hooked up an oxygen sensor and we couldn't get the adjustment right. We pulled the top off the carb just to recheck the float. It was fine, but then we noticed a metal shaving in the bowl. Long story short, we dismantled the whole thing and found metal bits everywhere. Not only aluminium from the carb body, but brass as well from the jets. And some burrs still attached to the jets. On top of that, the casting is terrible. One of my winter projects will be pulling it apart again and cleaning it up. After a thorough cleaning the car runs great. So much for quality control!

Interesting solution Richard, as the official skid plates (although well made) are a bit pricey
Could you post the supplier you used for the raw block ? Bought the 66 nylon block here Jon. Cheers Richard

I spoke with the supplier, Pegasus Racing, and told them about all the issues. They were very surprised since they sell a lot of them. Maybe mine was just made on a day when the quality control guy had been drinking all night.
