The VDO speedo in our 2006 Roadster has failed, again. It had new internals fitted by Speedy Cables (Caerbont) two years ago who also unhelpfully added 36,000 miles to the odometer.
This time the needle goes round to 200 mph as soon as the ignition switch is turned. Stays there as we drive. The odometer is working correctly.
I've tried feeling around the back to see if anything is loose but can't find anything.
I'll try putting a small heater in the car this afternoon but anyone got any better ideas?
I'm thinking of buying a small GPS speedo and using that instead. Any recommendations?

I think there was a recent thread on the VDO chip failure on the internal PCB ?

Interesting post. I have similar issues with the instruments on my boat and have found that the answer, for a few summer months, is to remove the instruments in autumn and leave them in the airing cupboard when the boat isnt in use. Alternatively, a de humidifier in the boat avoids the issue, as does regular use.

The problem seems to be infrequent use allowing condensation and damp to get inside unsealed or poorly sealed electronics
