Hi, does anybody know what the part number is of the viscous coupling on a 1980 4/4 with a 1600 x-flow? Or what else it may have been used on? Thanks Neil

I've had a crossflow 4/4 for a while, but was totally unaware it could have a viscous coupling. :-) is it part of the drive for the cooling fan ? eg: https://www.burtonpower.com/water-p...0C5Pmjfrcpa1VEHQRWLE3nGmLC2gAhMNGuynKK8D(Mine's got an alu rad replacement with an electric fan).

Someone has probably removed the viscous fan if the is an electric fan fitted. That water pump is the correct one for a viscous fan assembly. Where is your electric fan fitted? In front or behind the radiator, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of room behind the radiator, which is the best option.

It's quite easy to move the bottom mountings of the radiator forward by an inch or so. I think I made some small extension brackets for mine.

I've fitted one behind the radiator - as mentioned above a slight wangle of the fittings and I got a slimline one in. I'll try and find a link to the thread. Here we go - https://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/604226/1I fitted a sucker, as I believe they are more effective than a blower (as they don't block the airflow getting into the radiator)

The fan is fitted in front. The original fan was removed when the alu radiator was fitted about 15 years ago. I don't really know how often the fan comes on, but afaik there have been no cooling problems. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2024/11/14/IMG_2929.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2024/11/14/IMG_2928.jpg)

Looks good, just what I was considering, at the moment a 12” fan has been fitted as a blower, but it blocks a massive amount of radiator off. It’s on a switch, but it needs to run even at speed otherwise it blocks airflow to the radiator! Plus the temperature gauge is over reading which doesn’t help, new sensor on its way & then check the gauge if required, then I should have a better idea about the fan & away forward, but I am leaning towards your solution, nice to know you can get enough room to fit the fan. Need to sort this before I pull it all apart.

The fan on mine is 12” & blocks out most of the radiator! Think it’s off a Mercedes vito van!
