All advertising and PR is good …..no so.
Only recently didn’t some American beer ((Bud Light ?) use a trans guy or was it a girl in an ad and sales slumped.
I remember Hoover giving away a trip to the US with the purchase of a vacuum . Chaos , lots of publicity but not the right kind- it virtually bankrupt Hoover.
Design important to - anyone remember the Edsel front ‘bottom’ ???

The Shell logo has changed many times in its history but only subtly. Instantly can be recalled and would be guessed correctly in any pub quizz.
I am involved with design and modernisation can be a really good thing…..I love the Kia logo, more today than the old one.
Unsure but hasn’t VW beefed up the V and the W recently ??

Design and advertising can be very subjective but in the end can be measured in some terms, sales, customer recognition etc etc. I’ve only seen one new Jag ad, - and it went over my head. Current M&S ad, lost on me again.
Unfortunately my heartstrings are not being pulled by the John Lewis Ad…..I must be an old grumpy f**t !? MM

Ah Logos, just this morning on my Saturday social ride I was following someone with a Skoda shirt with logo prominent-it reminded me what we called that logo in the 70's The Flying C**k

Jaguar managing director Rawdon Glover said taking new cars off sale was “intentional” as it looked to create a barrier between the old models and the new-look Jaguars.

He said: “We need to change people’s perceptions of what Jaguar stands for. And that’s not a straightforward, easy thing to do. So having a fire break in between old and new is, actually, very helpful.”

“New Jaguar is a brand built around exuberant modernism. It is imaginative, bold and artistic at every touchpoint. It is unique and fearless.

Like Lotus, who have done a similar thing albeit on a smaller scale, they are throwing away their heritage and brand image. Right now Jaguar dont have a Brand - Grace Space and Pace has gone to be replaced by Woke by the look of the ad.

Mind you, Land Rover has also thrown away their old image as the Farmers work vehicle, but they have done it by finding a new market to appeal to.

Jaguar are dead. They wont come back but no one has yet told Glover.

That took me back ... we used to run Skodas when they were mostly seen as joke-fodder rather than the decent vehicles they were .... Mrs Image got to wondering if Czech men weren't made the same, as that seemed the only explaination as to why the designers would pick that logo ... her name for it was 'The Flying Dick' 🙂

What’s odd is that JLR are still getting it right with booming global Landrover sales despite a slowdown in China.

They are doing particularly well with Defender model - seem to be loads of them on the roads and it’s the no 1 car search on Autotrader.

They did get some criticism with the discontinuation of the old Defender, but they got it right on this model.

Looks like the butch Landy side of the business is carrying the car division .... however good the new 'defender' is (and they do seem to be rated by their owners) they still shouldn't have stopped making the old one ... the new one serves a completely different market and the old market goes unfilled (the muddy-boots, sheep-hauling 'tractor with a bit of comfort' brigade)... will just have to keep mine going til I shuffle off 🙂

Sir Jim agreed with you and wanted to carry on making it but JLR wouldn’t allow it hence the Grenadier.

It is a pretty brave business who stop sales for a year whilst investing in new technology and then does a complete rebrand.
Their cash flow must be appalling and now surely the auditors must ask them to write down the brand equity as good will in the balance sheet.

Skoda's winged arrow is certainly not the most beautiful logo ever invented. But at least they have preserved the tradition, quite the opposite of Jaguar now, Skoda already used the logo in the twenties:
