Supersonic Lighting jet wash

What better way to get freezing cold could there be than washing a jet first thing on a Sunday!

Cracking Pictures. Here is something to think about. I spoke to a elderly chap once who told me that in tests the TSR-2 was as fast as the Lighting with just one engine. This chap was working at MOD Boscombe Down at the time - 1960s.

I have the Haynes manual for the F4 Phantom. (Centre in shot for any non-aviation nuts). It hasn't aged a day. Maiden flight 1958. Designed in the age of steam and MGAs. Before the Mini.

An incredible benchmark of design off a drawing board, when computers were laughable.

In the mid 70’s I was in the RAF and I set fire to a Lightning in Lincolnshire ( it was a training exercise ) the plane was just a shell.
But it’s my claim to fame.

That’s an achievement only surpassed by Adele when she set fire to the rain, there’s not a lot to burn other than the fuel on those.😂
It brings to mind the proud boast a now retired employee of mine often had, he was a bit accident prone and when he broke something he would begin the confession with “ I always admit my mistakes but….”
My reply was, “ I always pay for your mistakes!”

I set fire to a Lightning in Lincolnshire in the 1980's as well.......it was a big blue flame and very loud! Then I put it out when it came out of reheat 😁.

At this museum you get to go up inside a Vulcan with an expert tour guide. Shocked to see how cramped it is with five crew - I thought the crew space would go along the fuselage rather than be confined to the cock pit area.

Guide told us that nineteen Vulcans (including test flights) have crashed during their service years. The pilot and co-pilot are ejected via Martin Baker seats and tend to survive but the three navigator/engineers have to drop out of the floor access hatch with a survival rate of nil
