Lets face it Jaguar made an attempt to fight in the mass market with the likes of BMW/Audi?Merc when it brought out the X range. It failed miserably as much because of the reputation it had built up, plus resale values as the actual car itself. If British people wont buy them over the German makes, how can we expect anyone else to do so either?

Now they are binning their heritage, surrendering the mass market fight, and kidding themselves that they can make it as an upmarket brand. Can anyone see a reason why someone would buy an upmarket Jag rather than an S class or 7 series?

Only to be different. Let's face it, before the XK, Jaguar was a wannabe Bentley even then. The Mk2 saloon almost made the grade, but the E Type put Jaguar right up there, because the design and engineering was spot on. They never managed to repeat that success, because even then it was bigger and lardier. The XJ6 was a great car dynamically. I borrowed one for my wedding car and it was super impressive.

It's sad because even with the Le Mans success, the glow of that era was soon forgotten. And I doubt many of the pinkies at Jaguar even know.
