Well, mains powers been down for 20 hrs due to the storm and another 24 hrs before power is estimated to be restored. The joys of a countryside life. Thank goodness for log burners, emergency gas stoves and a small generator to power the deep freezes. Also good old fashioned phone lines as the mobile towers failed for 20 hrs as well, so no mobile signal for a.long while. God knows what will happen in the future when we are all electric and the mains power fails, then we will have a cold home, no cooking , no telephone that works and nothing to charge an electric car.. Quite enjoying listening to the radio and sitting around the log burner as the wind howls. dave

That sounds tough. Our power has not, as yet, been interrupted. (But I do have a Trangia camping stove in reserve)
I live in East Devon and we are getting battered, Local radio is providing excellent information.
Two of my fences appear very vulnerable.
Please stay safe everyone.

We are between the Quantock hills and Exmoor, not far from the Bristol channel, been blowing a hooley all day, dropped slightly this afternoon but picked up again as it became dark.. For once I am pleased I am not at sea and all the joys of turning the ship in high seas..

Still gusting over 60 here in Wales, and lights flickering now and again. We have a battery which can keep the fibre internet/phone line alive for about 10 hours if necessary.

A bit of blow with 98mph recorded at Berry Head nearby but thankfully no power outage but a couple of dips.
Presently 20 gusting 50.

I don't know about power outages, but having arrived yesterday afternoon from a holiday in India, it was a bit of a shock to turn up at Paddington station, thinking of home and my own bed, to find all trains to the west country were cancelled, necessitating us in a £250 Premier Inn stay. Caught the first train this morning, (Sunday) and hope to be home in Exmouth sometime after midday. Not quite the end of the holiday I was thinking of.

Latest from national grid is no power until at least late Monday or possibly Tuesday.. 300 homes with no power in our little area. Looks like not enough personnel or resources to cope..

Living where I do under the arms of a huge electricity pylon just a field away from the edge of suburbia, it was ever frustrating when out aged wooden pole supported local distribution network failed on a semi regular basis during storms etc... Sitting without power looking at the newer housing estate with all it`s lights on.... Shrug. At least early on after moving here, we saw the benefit of the Rayburn coal fired cooker, as well as the back boiler in the coal fire to provide hot water..... All ripped out in time relative to the modernisation process of the home, but the need to be self reliant was not forgotten, candles, Torches camping stove and £3k spent to get a gas pipe laid along the road 40 years ago was money well spent... As for yet another benefit of EV, if one has an installation such as one`s EV can also be used as a backup power supply....hmm..?
